I love Brenda Joyce's books and this is one of her series that I haven't heard of but I loved instantly when I finally got them. The books in this series were originally printed and published the the late 1980s but Brenda Joyce and her pulishers decided to reissue them now and here they are. They have new beautiful covers and everything but they are the same wonderful stories. Their are four books in this reissued series and this is the first book where the Bragg family started.
Innocent Fire started this amazing Bragg Saga but Firestorm continued this amazing series that I feel in love with. Well now Derek and Miranda are older and they have three wonderful children who are all growing up in such a loving family. Nicholas the oldest, Storm the middle child and Rathe the baby have grown up to be very resourceful like their father and have even trained in the Apache way because that too is apart their heritage. In this novel it is Storm who has some growing up to do and become the lady that her father Derek and her mother Miranda knows is in her. Of course she is going to have to go to Miranda's cousin who lives in San Francisco to become a lady dressing in elegant ball gowns and going to parties with polite society. When Storm arrives in San Francisco with her father Derek she meets Brett D’Archand who does business with her mother's cousin and their is an instant attraction between them.
Storm and Brett have a very fascinating and somewhat dangerous journey to falling in love and becoming a happy marriaged couple. Brett has family issues that may very well end his relationship with Storm because he has some very vindictive family members that really don't want to see him happily marriaged to a woman that his estranged father likes. Storm leads Brett on a very long and stressfull journey to find the happiness that both of them are looking for but don't realize they can have it until it is within their reach. Reading Storm and Brett's novel was amazing and I love the Bragg family because they have very strong personalities that they are lucky enough to find in their life partners. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:
FIRESTORM $ 7.99 (Book 2)(344 Pages)
A whirlwind affair that would leave them breathless
Wild and untamed, Storm Bragg has always felt more at home with her horses than in the drawing rooms of polite society. But her family has decided that she must finally grow up, don an elegant ball gown that accentuates her uncommon beauty, and make her debut. Quickly pursued by every eligible gentleman in town, stubborn Storm has eyes for only one, and his no gentleman. Brett D’Archand is a self-made success: arrogant, impossibly attractive, blatantly sensual…and looking for a wife who will give him the respectability he craves.
Dangerously bewitched, Storm unleashes a passion that makes Brett lose his head as well as his heart. No threatened by scandal and ruin, they will be forced to wed—a tempestuous union of free spirits, shackled only by the irrepressible bonds of love.

Innocent Fire is the beginning of the Bragg Dynasty and it is only the beginning of a very passionate and wonderful series of novels. Derek Bragg and Miranda have almost absolutely nothing in common except this attraction that they have for each other. This novel had many ups and downs that Derek and Miranda had to go through in their journey to finding love and happiness. Miranda had a very bad experience with her mother and father when she was a child that made her think of all men as beasts and shouldn't be trusted because they will hurt you. Also she was raised in a convent in France so she is very innocent to the male species and doesn't know much about them except for what the nuns have told her and her experience with her father. Derek Bragg is part white and part Apache and has had a life that is totally different from Miranda. He is knowledgeable in the Apache way and is very proud of his roots and doesn't care what others think even though he looks more white than Apache
This novel is very intense and very amazing that I really couldn't put it down unless I really had to. There were parts that really made me sad because I couldn't see that Miranda and Derek were hurting and I couldn't do anything about it. But the ending made up for everything because Miranda and Derek were able to have their happily ever after and they have children to look forward to to make up for all the sadness and danger that went through in their journey to find love and happiness. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:
INNOCENT FIRE $ 7.99 (Book 1)(376 Pages)
Her betrothal was not by choice…
Sheltered and naïve. Miranda leaves behind the only life she had ever known to marry a man she had never met. Her escort on this journey is her fiancé’s friend Derek Bragg, a rough, virile lawman whose harsh manner and candid comments about her beauty enrage her. She wishes more than anything to return home, her virtue and happiness intact.
Derek had no idea Miranda would take his frank appreciation of her considerable charms so harshly. Though he tries to deny his feelings, he knows he is falling hopelessly in love with her. And soon Miranda too begins to struggle with her desire for her protector—and wonder if she should sacrifice her innocence to the fire blazing out of control in her heart.

The wait is finally over because here is the Prologue and Chapter One from Faefever that I found on KMM's podcast blog. Today is special because Paige Tyler will be guest blogging today about her upcoming release Animal Attraction which will be released on Monday, September 15th. I absolutely love the amazing cover and I hope to get it but I will have to see if I can scrap enough money to buy it and enjoy it. I begged her to guest blog and after a long while we came to an agreement and the good news is this is only the first guest blog Paige will be doing here on Talk About My Favorite Authors. Paige will be guest blogging next week because she has another very exciting new release coming out two weeks from now which she will talk about. Now lets get to Paige's guest blog post!
* * * *
Before I talk about my release from Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, a hot paranormal erotic romance called Animal Attraction, I have to say thank you to Phoebe for asking me to guest blog! I'm so flattered! Now onto Animal Attraction! When I first read that Whiskey Creek Press Torrid was coming out with a new line of books called the Men of Alaska Series, I totally knew I had to write a book for it. I mean, what's more exciting than a hot, hunky, outdoorsy hero, right?! I played around with a lot of different storylines, but I kept coming back to the idea of werewolves. Wolves just seemed to fit so well into the Alaskan theme, so I decided to go for it. Once I did a little bit of research on Fairbanks, the story just started to write itself. I thought it would be more fun for my heroine to be a skeptic, so I made her a reluctant reporter for a paranormal magazine. I figured that would lead to lots of amusing interaction with the hunky hero, who just happens to be a werewolf, of course! Take a look at the blurb and excerpt below, and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. To all the paranormal romance fans out there, I hope you really enjoy the read, and to Phoebe, once again, thanks a million for asking me to guest blog! Blurb: Frustrated when none of the real newspapers will hire her as a reporter, Eliza Bradley takes the only job she can get—at a paranormal magazine. Her first assignment takes her to Fairbanks, Alaska to investigate the possibility that a werewolf has killed two local hikers. She forgets about the story, however, when she meets Hunter McCall, a local college professor and an expert on wolves. The man is an absolute hunk, and she finds herself spending more time in his bed than worrying about werewolves. That is, until Eliza finds out that Hunter isn’t just an animal in the sack, he’s an animal out of it, too—of the werewolf variety! Talk about a complicated relationship! But Eliza can’t dwell on Hunter’s little shapeshifting issues. There’s another werewolf out there with a taste for human blood, and she and Hunter are the only ones who can stop him. Excerpt: “Anything else I can get for you folks?” the waitress asked.
Eliza glanced down at the table before looking up at the waitress again. “Ketchup?”
The woman nodded. “There’s a bottle on the table right behind you, sugar. Enjoy your dinner.”
Eliza had expected the woman to bring her a new bottle of ketchup, or at least grab the one off the other table for them, like waitresses in most restaurants would usually do. Maybe it was a diner thing, Eliza thought. Or an Alaska thing. Either way, it seemed she would be going to get her own bottle of ketchup. Taking her napkin off her lap and placing it on the table, Eliza pushed back her chair and got to her feet. When the waitress had told her that there was a bottle of ketchup on the table behind theirs, she had naturally assumed it was unoccupied, so she was surprised to see a man sitting there. And not just the average, run-of-the-mill guy she’d expect to find in a diner either, but a mouth-watering specimen of a man. Her breath caught as she found herself stopping right there in the middle of the diner to stare at him She had read in Cosmo once that there was something different about Alaskan men, that living in the great white north made them more masculine and sexy. Staring at the man seated at the table, she could well believe it.Thank goodness he was intent on whatever he was reading on the laptop in front of him, because he would surely think she was a freak standing there staring at him with her mouth hanging open. But good heavens, with that thick, dark hair, chiseled, hair-roughened jaw, and wide, sensual mouth, how could any woman not be mesmerized? Abruptly realizing how idiotic she must look just standing there, Eliza finally forced her feet to move. As she neared his table, the man looked up from his laptop and she felt her breath hitch as his gaze met hers. She’d never seen eyes like his before. Not quite brown, but not really hazel, either, the only way she could think to describe them was gold. And the sexiest pair of eyes she’d ever seen. The heat from them mesmerized her, pulling her into their depths, and suddenly she found it very hard to breathe.
When he lifted a brow in question, she finally managed to break out of her trance. “I, um, was wondering if I could steal your ketchup,” Eliza stammered, her face coloring. “We don’t have any,” she added, glancing back at her table.
The man followed the direction of her gaze, his gold eyes settling on the photographer for a moment before he gave her a smile. “Sure.”
Picking up the bottle, he held it out to her. As she reached for it, her fingers brushed his and she almost gasped as the most amazing sensation swept through her. It was like she’d just gotten completely and thoroughly kissed. Her knees felt weak and there was a delicious little flutter in her tummy that left her breathless.
It was then that she realized she hadn’t actually taken the bottle of ketchup yet. She was just standing there touching him like a dufus. She tried to cover her bizarre behavior by grabbing the bottle, but all she did was almost knock it out of his hand. They both fumbled with the thing for a moment before she finally gained control of it.
Could she be any more lame? She could already feel the heat rushing to her face. “I think your boyfriend’s waiting for the ketchup,” he said when she continued to just stand there.
Eliza’s brow furrowed in confusion at the word “boyfriend,” but then she realized he must be referring to the photographer. She forced her attention away from the pleasant warmth that still swirled between her thighs and gave him a smile. “Oh, you mean Andy. He’s not my boyfriend. We just work together.” One eyebrow rose. “Really.”
Oh God. Did he think she was trying to come on to him? Crap, she really needed to go back to her table before she did something else to embarrass herself. But she couldn’t seem to make her feet move. She had a crazy urge to reach out and touch him again to see if that same sexual spark would happen. Resisting the impulse, she instead reached up to tuck her long, dark hair behind her ear. “But you’re right. He is probably waiting for the ketchup.”
Giving the man another smile, she forced her-self to turn and walk back to her table. Halfway there, however, she couldn’t resist glancing over her shoulder to take one more look at him. He was regarding her with those incredible golden eyes of his, and her pulse fluttered wildly at the intensity in his gaze.
What was going on with her? She’d never experienced anything like this in her life. She had to get control of herself. Giving him one more look over her shoulder, she turned and stumbled back to her seat in a daze, clutching the bottle of ketchup in her hand. Across from her, Andy lifted a brow as if to ask, what the hell is wrong with you? When she didn’t say anything he prompted, “You just going to sit there and hold that all night or can I use the ketchup?”
She blinked. “What? Oh, yeah. Sorry,” she mumbled, handing it to him. Eliza watched as the photographer dumped ketchup on his onion rings, and then began to dig into his meal. She knew she should be doing the same, but she couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened. Her heart was still racing as if she’d just come back from a run. Or had just gotten done having some really great sex. Good heavens, and all of that was from a mere brush of the fingers. She couldn’t keep herself from wondering what it would have been like if he really had kissed her.
It was a long time before Eliza could focus on her food, and by then, she realized she wasn’t really hungry anymore, at least not for food anyway.

Well as you all know that I recently reviewed an ARC copy of Shayla Black's recent release Tempt me with Darkness, which came out on Tuesday, August 26th. So when I finished reading it I thought that I really have to get an interview from Shayla because I wanted to know a bit about her, her writing and her Doomsday Brethren series. I was lucky enough to get a short interview with her because she is very hard at work writing the second book in her new series Doomsday Brethren. To recap here is a link to my review of Tempt me with Darkness and here is the short interview with Shayla Black:

* * * * *

Phoebe Jordan: When did you know that writing romance was going to be the thing that you would do with your life?

Shayla Black: About ten years ago, after I first published, writing consumed me. For years, I’ve been wanting to transition to full-time writing, but have had other obligations preventing that. As of this fall, I’ve been able to clear some of those obligations from my calendar and am devoting more time to writing than ever. I love what I do!

Phoebe: What was the first fiction, that was not a homework assignment in school, you ever wrote? And do you still have it with you?

Shayla: Goodness, you’re crediting me with having been bitten by the writing bug at a young age. Nothing could be less true. I didn’t even read a book for pleasure until I was 19. I realized later that it had to do with WHAT I was reading, not the fact I was reading in general. No offense to Misters Steinbeck, Salinger or Shakespeare, but they just didn’t hold my attention the way romance novels did. Heck, if I’d read Jane Austen in school, I think I would have been thrilled…but alas, it wasn’t until college when someone put a romance in my hands and I’ve been hooked since. To date, I’ve sold every novel I’ve finished. I have a rough draft of 5 chapters of a book I began writing shortly after I took up pen…or computer, as it were. A recent glance at that book assures me it will never see the light of day.

Phoebe: How much research do you have to do for your novels, especially for your Doomsday Brethren series and did it take you a long time to gather that research?

Shayla: Research is something I do on an as needed basis. I’m an avid collector of non-fiction about London, British history, historical clothing, etc., so I have a lot of that knowledge in my head. I’m also a great Googler and have UK peers who have been kind enough to assist me with some of the research and dialects in this particular series. Other than that, I don’t do a lot of research up front. I tend to wait until I run into a section of the book that requires it, then go forth. Research is nice…but I’d rather be writing.

Phoebe: How did you come up with the Doomsday Brethren series and how many books are you planning to write for the series?

Shayla: The Doomsday Brethren series has been brewing in my head for about a decade. In 1996, I started the first book, and then put it aside when I realized I just didn’t have the skill yet to write it. A few years later, after I was published, I took it out once more, and again realized I wasn’t ready. I dusted it off again about two years ago, reworked a bunch of it—and sold the first three in the series. This is near and dear to my heart, and I’m really hoping that readers enjoy it. Currently, I’m under contract for 2 more Doomsday Brethren books. SEDUCE ME IN SHADOW and POSSESS ME AT MIDNIGHT come out back to back beginning October 2009. I’m writing them as we speak! In my head, I have at least 7 books in this epic to tell, so I’m hoping that readers want to come along for the ride.

Joan Johnston is a very good author that I stumbled upon at Barnes & Noble. I love her Sisters of the Lone Star series and her Bitter Creek series. This book is a stand alone novel but that doesn't mean it isn't as good as a series book. I love historical romances and Joan Johnston is very good and I recommend everyone to give her books a try.
Kid Calhoun is such an amazing book about a young lady who was raised by her father and uncle. So she never had a woman to help her understand that she is a young lady and there are things that she should and shouldn't do. Anabeth is disguised as a boy and goes by the name Kid Calhoun because her uncle Booth Calhoun's gang wouldn't be too pleased to find out the truth. The outlaw gang were made up of very dangerous men who made Anabeth very anxious to finally have enough money so both her and her uncle can finally leave the outlaw life and make a real life together where she can finally become a lady. Things didn't go the way they wanted to when they add on a new man who gives Anabeth a very bad feeling especially since he entered the gang because he knew of a man who was caring a lot of gold but he couldn't steal the gold without an outlaw gang to help him.
The Calhoun gang lead by Booth never killed anyone but the new member didn't care and they killed both the greenhorn passenger and the rich man who they new held the gold they wanted. Anabeth's uncle didn't like that but that didn't matter because later when they were supposed to all meet up and split the gold they all shot and killed him. When he was finally dead they found out that he died with the secret of where the rest of the gold was and so they all went in search of Kid Calhoun. In comes Jake Kearney the Texas Ranger who was the friend of the man who was killed. Jake and Anabeth have one adventure after another falling in love with each other without them even knowing about it until they almost lost one another. But the best part of this novel is that Jake's sister Claire and Anabeth's Comanche friend Wolf have their own love story towards the end of this novel. So it was like a two-in-one novel and I loved every minute of it and could hardly put it down until I finished it. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:
KID CALHOUN $ 7.99 (406 Pages)
SHE RODE THE OUTLAW TRAIL DISGUISED AS A MAN…
Texas Ranger Jake Kearney was astonished to discover that the “Kid” Calhoun he stalked, the same outlaw who saved him from ambush, was a woman—and an irresistible one at that! Now Anabeth Calhoun was an unwilling captive of the flinty-eyed Ranger as they pursued a gang of cold-blooded killers…and a cache of stolen gold that had mysteriously disappeared. But the lawman’s problems had only just begun. Fighting his desire for the outlaw he had sworn would not escape justice, Jake Kearney was soon torn between his duty…and his love….
WITH A WOMAN’S UNTAMED HEART….
Anabeth knew she had found her match in the rugged loner who taught her the joys and passion…while she taught him the exquisite perils of love. She also knew that Anabeth “Kid” Calhoun was one outlaw both willing and eager to fall into the long arms of the law!

Joan Johnston is a very good author that I stumbled upon at Barnes & Noble. I love her Sisters of the Lone Star series and her Bitter Creek series. I also love her Montana Bride series which isn't really what it's called but I'm calling it that because the book I reviewed yesterday and the one I'm reviewing today are connected to each other. I love historical romances and Joan Johnston is very good and I recommend everyone to give her books a try.
Outlaw's Bride is the sequel to The Barefoot Bride and it is the story of Patricia "Patch" Kendrick the daughter of Seth Kendrick from the first novel. In The Barefoot Bride we know that Patch is in love with the outlaw Ethan Hawk even though he is thirteen years her senior. We start the novel with Ethan still being hunted down and Patch just arriving into his home town looking for him. Ethan wasn't all that thrilled when he found out that the beautiful lady he was lusty after was indeed Patch Kendrick the little girl he left behind 8 years ago when she was 12 years old. Ethan and Patch go through many dangerous situations throughout this novel because Ethan was acused of raping a wealthy man's young daughter when she was thirteen and he was fifteen. He ran after it happened and saved Seth from becoming a drunk and leaving his daughter all alone but he was still an outlaw and had to keep moving if he didn't want them to hurt Seth and Patch.
Eventually Ethan went to jail and he spent a couple of years there but he was finally released but he was still being hunted down by the men the raped girl's father kept sending after him. Ethan goes through some very tough situations because Patch has decided that Ethan is innocent and that they should start searching for the real rapist. Throughout the novel I had a couple of ideas of who the real rapist was and I had it right when I finished the end but I had a couple of doubts. I had such fun reading about Ethan and Patch adventure to falling in love with each other and finally getting together even though Ethan was 13 years her senior. Here is the descriptions of the books from the back cover and pictures: OUTLAW'S BRIDE $ 7.50 (Book 2)(386 Pages)
When the gorgeous blonde sashayed into Oakville, Ethan Hawk was a goner—until she told him her name: Patch Kendrick. The tomboy tease he remembered from Fort Benton, Montana, was now a luscious lady hunting for her man: him! Nothing, not even his outlaw past, would keep Patch off his trail. She knew that Ethan Hawk was the man for her—even when he galloped out of her childhood with a price on his head and nary a backward glance. Now that she’s found him again, she’s armed and ready for love. But before Ethan could yield his heart, he had to clear his name. So Patch set out to find the villain who framed him—and risked ambushing her lifelong dream….

The Barefoot Bride is a very good read that I finished up very quickly. I couldn't put it down for more than I had to because I wanted to know what happened next to both the heroine Molly Gallagher and the hero Seth Kendrick. Molly and Seth are both widowers searching for someway to help their children live normal and healthy lives. When Seth but an ad in the paper saying he was seeking an educated woman who can work as a nurse, manage a household, a lady with good character and who likes animals. When Molly saw this ad it was during a time of change for her because she was about to lose the home where she and her children lived and she didn't have anywhere else to go. She corresponded with Seth but she was planning to turn him down because she didn't think she could uproot her children to live all the way in Montana. But that all changed when her ten-year-old son Whit left a note saying he was running away to become a Whaler just like his father James Gallagher who drowned at sea.
That was Molly's breaking point because she went to get Whit and took him home to pack and they left for Montana the next day. It wasn't until they were half way to Montana that Molly finally understood what she had done by telling Seth she was coming and going to Montana with her children. A place that was wild and still uncivilized with no one she knew to help her except Seth who is a man who would soon be her husband. I read this novel very quickly because I really couldn't bare to put it down of more than necessary. Molly's two children Whit and four-year-old Nessie and Seth's daughter Patch made the lives of their newly married parents hell because they wanted things back to the way the were before the marriage. They made so many troubles for Molly and Seth who were very attracted to one another and couldn't seem to spend enough time alone to find out what they can have with each other.
But it wasn't long before Whit and Patch who fought like cats and dogs to finally come to terms with one another. That let their parents finally understand that even though they both weren't looking to love one another when they started the marriage they loved each other so much they couldn't live without the other. I loved how the book ended and was glad that their was another book to tell me Patch's love story. Here is the descriptions of the books from the back cover and pictures: THE BAREFOOT BRIDE $ 7.50 (Book 1)(386 Pages)
FROM POLITE BOSTON TO THE WILDS OF MONTANA, SHE CAME SEEKING A SAFE HAVEN FOR HER FAMILY—AND FOUND UNEXPECTED LOVE. She was a whaling captain’s widow, determined to keep her headstrong son from following his father’s course. Molly Gallagher had lost her beloved husband to a watery grave; she refused to risk her son. So she quickly agreed to become a Montana country doctor’s mail-order bride. She told him she could never love another man. But she didn’t tell him she came with heavy baggage—a young daughter and a rebellious teenage son. It might have worked if Seth Kendrick hadn’t had secrets—a daughter determined to end the marriage before it even began…if he wasn’t living a double life as a doctor and a rancher determined to keep his neighbors safe from outlaws. In an untamed land of vigilante justice, where two unruly families struggled to become one, Molly had no choice but to trust a gray-eyed stranger whose stubbornness matched her own…whose kisses ignited flash-fire desire…who was, in fact, the one man in a million who could hope to win Molly Gallagher’s fiery, faithful heart—forever.

This is the first book in Julia London's Scandal series and I have to say that it is one hell of a novel and I can't wait for more! I love historical romances because they take me back into a time that is so different yet very fascinating to me. From the very start this novel caught my attention. The blurb was very fascinating because this book of scandal has some very juicy secrets about the royal Prince Regent of England. And within that book there are so many secrets that may mention people of the high ton, which is not good for them because they don't want those secrets to get out. In comes my favorite characters heroine Lady Evelyn Grey and Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey. They have been estranged for around three years but once Nathan got word that Evelyn may be in trouble because she is close to the princesses and therefore close to the Prince of Wales. Nathan is worried that Evelyn maybe tragged into testifying in the “Delicate Investigation” that was beginning to takes London by storm since Princess Caroline made known of her Book of Scandal becoming public soon.
But when Nathan comes to take Evelyn home to Eastchurch Abbey she told him she would never go back to that house where she has so many horrible memories that she would love to never remember again. I have to say that Evelyn is a very strong woman because she stood up to her husband on a matter she felt very strongly about when others would have just accepted and gone home with their husbands. But she is going to have to understand that her husband is not going to take no for an answer because he is going to get his way and bring her home where she belongs and where the scandal won't be able to touch her for long. Evelyn and Nathan have a troubling marriage but one that is based on the love that they have for each other even though they have had a terrible loss that seperated them three years ago. This scandal brought them together where they belonged but they had a very hard road ahead of them to find that out for themselves.
It was one very bumpy road that Evelyn and Nathan had to walk upon to get back the marriage that they both needed and very much deserved. I won't say too much because I don't want to spoil anything for readers who haven't picked up this wonderful book. I do have to say that I enjoyed this novel so much that I finished it up in one day with necessary things interrupting me from my reading. I hardly put this book down because I wanted to know everything that was happening to Evelyn and Nathan and I had to know now otherwise I would go stir crazy or something. I can't wait until the next book comes out! Julia London has written an amazing book and I thank her a million times over for it. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:
THE BOOK OF SCANDAL $ 6.99 (Book 1)(362 Pages)
The Princess of Wales has cataloged the shocking exploits of the outrageous Prince Regent and many of his noble friends in a book that has all of London aflutter…
Nathan Grey, the Earl of Lindsey, is infamously known as the Libertine of Lindsey for his scandalous ways with women. But when he hears gossip that his estranged wife, Evelyn, is about to be named in The Book of Scandal, he has no choice but to remove her from London to protect her and himself from charges of treason—even if it calls for abduction! While Evelyn has no legal recourse against her lord and master, she is no longer the immature girl Nathan married. Her enforced homecoming quickly turns into a battle of wills that tears down her husband’s defenses and lays bare the passion that still burns between them. Before it is too late, Nathan must confront powerful adversaries as he convinces Evelyn that she is not only his wife, but the one woman he will love for all time.

I found out about the author Sunny through an anthology I bought and read. I found out about her Monère, Children of the Moon series and Mona Lisa Craving is the third and latest book in the series. I have to say that after I finished reading the first book in the series I was addicted to Sunny and have even bought the first book of her new series that branchs out from the same Monère theme as this novel. From the first paragraph this novel just sucked me in because it was such a fascinating new world opening up to me. Mona Lisa is such a wonderful name for a character because it reminds me of Leonardo da Vinci's painting Mona Lisa and because all the Monère Queen's names start with Mona and they have different second names, like Mona Lisa's mother is Queen Mona Sera of Queens, NY.
This series is considered erotica and I have to say that it definitely is very sexy and steamy. It also has that touch of paranormal since the novel is about a people called the Monère who's mother planet was the Moon before it collapse and they had to seek refuge on earth. Mona Lisa finally has her own territory in New Orleans but she isn't very happy. She has lost her greatest love and on top of that her animal form is something that she has a hard time of keeping in control. But things are just going to get worse for Mona Lisa in this novel because she meets someone from her past life as Mona Lyra the Warrior Queen of the Monère when they were still on their beloved mother planet. Dante shared the a past life with Mona Lisa when she was Mona Lyra but it wasn't a very happy one and now that they finally know each other and have been intimate with one another they are both starting to remember that pass life that both would just love to forget forever, especially Mona Lisa.
Mona Lisa meets many good and very bad Monère people in her quest to understand who she is and claim her right is a Monère Queen. At the end of this novel I wanted more because I know that Mona Lisa's life is only going to get more interesting and dangerous. And she is also dealing with another loss that I really think is going to take a long while for her to get over. Dante is gone from her life but they have such a contection that I know they are meant to be together but I won't know what is going to happen until the next book called Mona Lisa Darkening comes out in January of next year. There is some good news for everyone about this series because as of October 2008 the entire Mona Lisa novels are going to be coming out to mass market paperback for $6.99. This is exciting news because it is going to be less expensive but have all the goods of a Monère novel and also the fourth novel in this series will come out next year in mass market paperback with a very different cover from the first three. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:

I found out about the author Sunny through an anthology I bought and read. I found out about her Monère, Children of the Moon series and Mona Lisa Blossoming is the second book in the series. I have to say that after I finished reading the first book I was addicted to Sunny and have even bought the first book of her new series that branchs out from the same Monère theme as this novel. When I found out about this book I knew I had to buy it because I had to find out what is going on with Mona Lisa and her people. From the first paragraph this novel just sucked me in because it was such a fascinating new world opening up to me just like the first novel.
Here is a recap of what happened to Mona Lisa in the first novel. Mona Lisa doesn't know that she is part Monère until Gryphon a Monère warrior who was outcasted by Mona Sera came injured to her hospital where she is a nurse. That is when her whole world changes and is now coming face to face with her full blooded Monère mother Mona Sera who abadoned her at an orphanage because she was Mixed Blooded. Mona Lisa and Gryphon go through so much together in this novel and they almost lose one another but they are joined by another strong Monère warrior named Amber.
Mona Lisa meets many good and very bad Monère people in her quest to understand who she is and claim her right is a Monère Queen in the first novel. In the second novel things get worse for Mona Lisa because she finally given her own lands but it is the former lands of her greatest enemy Mona Lousia. In this novel Mona Lisa goes through a lot of heartache because she discovers many new things that she never knew about and has a very big impact on her new life. Mona Lousia is still after Mona Lisa's blood and what's more upsetting is that she was given a small piece of Mississippi which is right next to Mona Lisa. What is more dangerous than having your sworn enemy living right next door without even knowing it until you are being held kidnapped by the very person.
At the end of this novel I wanted more because I know that Mona Lisa's life is only going to get more interesting and dangerous and because I want to know how her life is now that she has lost one of her true loves. MONA LISA BLOSSOMING $ 14.00 (Book 2)(246 Pages)
From the time she was an orphaned child, Mona Lisa knew she was different—but she never knew how different until the truth was revealed. She was a Mixed Blood of the Monère, the children of the moon. Stronger, faster, and more beautiful than any human, they were the origins of Earth’s darkest legends—and Mona Lisa was their newest Queen…
Accompanied by a loyal cadre of warriors and kin, Mona Lisa enters her territory of Louisiana for the first time. She slowly learns the erotic and savage customs of the Monère elite—though some of her new subjects are uneasy about being ruled by one whose lineage is diluted with the blood of humanity. Her reign is threatened by enemies old and new, and she is ensnared in the thrall of dark forces she cannot deny. In a hidden world of animal passions and unrelenting lust, Mona Lisa soon grasps the tremendous power she must command if she is to hold her realm together.

Gryphon is hurting and hunted…and he attracts her as no man ever has before. He is a Monère, one of the children of the moon—and what’s more, so is she…
Long exiled from the moon, the men of the Monère serve—and mate—with imperious Queens, who can channel the rays of their far-off homeland. Gryphon believes that Mona Lisa is a Queen—perhaps the first of Mixed Blood ever known. But her introduction to the nighttime court of the Monère, simmering with intrigue, casual lust, and calculated cruelty, is far from smooth. The other Queens are infuriated by her potential powers, and they are all menaced by a group of rogue males who have broken away from the women’s sway. Even as she battles threats from within and without, Mona Lisa is determined to discover who she is, and to explore the limits of her growing power—and her secret desires.

I saw over at one of my fave blogs, ~ Stacy's Place on Earth, that My Friend Amy is putting together a Book Blogger Appreciation Week and it sounded pretty cool so I thought I'd join in on the fun by visiting My Friend Amy's blog. When I read what it was all about it got me very interested and I think Amy came up with an amazing idea when she thought of Book Blogger Appreciation Week. Here are the details from Amy's blog below:
Book Bloggers: You work hard. You read books, you write reviews, you maintain relationships with your readers, publicists, and authors. You are constantly running to the post office to mail your giveaways and participating in carnivals to help boost traffic. You sometimes want to faint when you see the size of your TBR pile, but faithfully you read. And you do it because you love it. Book blogging is for most a hobby. But it's a hobby that takes a lot of work and time. It's a labor of love.
I've been blogging for three years but only really got into book blogging in the last year. I have found, without a doubt, that book bloggers are the kindest, most open minded, and supportive group of bloggers on the internet. With book blogging, it's about community and a love for the written word.
The Readers: We love you! You don't have a blog, but you read our reviews and share your thoughts with us. You enter our giveaways and click on our Amazon associates link. We do this for you and appreciate your readership. We hope you'll join in the fun and festivities of BBAW! (we'll have a special contest just for you!)
Book Blogger Appreciation Week: Acknowledging the hard work of book bloggers and their growing impact on book marketing and their essential contribution to book buzz in general, I am excited to announce the first Book Blogger Appreciation Week. Think of it as a retreat for book bloggers and a chance for us to totally nerd out over books together. And of course, shower each other with love and appreciation.
Register: In order to experience the maximum impact of the week, I invite you to register your participation (just like a retreat)!
To register, just send an email to bookbloggerappreciationweek @ gmail.com (without the spaces) with your blog url and what you consider your niche...i.e, general book blog, classics blog, personal blog with a healthy dose of books, YA books blog, etc. Then, add one of the two buttons at the bottom of this post to your sidebar. If you are a reader (no blog) just send an email announcing your plans to follow along.
Why bother? If you register, you will be added to a book blog directory which will exist long after this week is over. Additionally, you will receive one raffle entry into the daily giveaways during BBAW here at My Friend Amy.
Awards: Oh yes, there will be awards. The Oscars of Book Blogging. :) Nominations start next week.
Spread the Word: If you are excited about this idea like I am and the other book bloggers who are helping, please consider writing a post on your blog announcing this event and inviting other book bloggers and readers to join.
Help Wanted: If you have a talent for designing buttons (like those below) and would like to donate some of your time and skill to me, please email me personally at mypalamy @ gmail.com (without the spaces).

Shayla Black is a new author that I recently stumbled upon by surfing the internet. I was visiting a blog that a recent author I've discovered called Shiloh Walker is a blogger at, which is called After Midnight Fantasies. On the day that I stopped by this blog Shayla Black was having a contest with the prize of an ARC of Tempt me with Darkness, which will be out in bookstores everyone on Tuesday, August 26th. She still has a contest going on her website where you can win a copy of the book and it ends on August 31st so hurry up.
When I read the description of the novel I knew it was going to be good because I love anything to do with King Arthur, Morganna and Merlin. It has always fascinated me and so this book really intrigued me because I've read a couple of other books about King Arthur and his knights and they are all very different from each other. I couldn't but this book down, unless is was important, it captivated me from the beginning and held me there throughout the entire novel. Marrok is an intriguing character that is cursed to live forever for crossing Morganna and that is all about to change when he meet one of Morganna's descendents. Olivia Grey looks almost exactly like Morganna and she even has the same mark as her so when Marrock is finally introduced to her he is furious. He thinks that Olivia is Morganna in disguise and is only here to torture him so more.
Throughout the novel Olivia and Marrock go through many dangerous incidents because a great evil called Mathias is now awakened is out to get Olivia and Morganna's magic book, which Marrock has guarded. There were a couple of parts in the that I had a hard time understanding and I had to read it a couple of times over to understand fully on what was going on but in the end it helped me understand the characters better. The affection that Marrock and Olivia have together is very passionate and yet the both struggle with it because Marrock has lived for years without knowing loving and Olivia had to live with a mother who never showed her any real affection. There was a part towards the end of the book that I really had difficulty reading because it made me sad and uncomfortable. But don't let that keep you from picking up a copy of this amazing book because I have to tell you it made me want for Shayla Black to hurry up and finish writing the rest of the series. And it's going to be a long wait because I heard that the next two books in the series, Seduce me in Shadow and Possess me at Midnight, will be coming in October and November of 2009. Here is the description of the book from Shayla Black's website and picture:

I love Linda Howard's novels and when I found out about her novel Raintree: Inferno being the first book in the Raintree series I knew I had to give this paranormal romance from the Silhouette Nocturne line a try. I also have read a book by Beverly Barton that my aunt let me borrow from her and I liked her writing so I was excited to find out that she wrote the last book in the series. Linda Windstead Jones is a new author to me and I love to discover new authors books to read. The three Raintrees in these three books are brothers and sister and they each have a different power.
In Linda Howard's Raintree: Inferno we are introduced to Dante Raintree who is the oldest Raintree brother and the head of the Raintree family as the King of the Raintrees. His power is to control fire and in the novel he runs a casino in Las Vegas which is where he ends up meeting his lady love Lorna Clay. They have a very dangerous path ahead of them because the Ansara, who are the Raintrees' mortal enemy, are after Dante and Lorna because they want them both dead. At the end of this wonderful and exciting novel we are left to wonder about the other two siblings of the Raintree family.
In Linda Windstead Jones' Raintree: Haunted we meet the middle brother Gideon Raintree who can harness electricity and talk to ghosts. Gideon is also a homicide detective because of his ability to talk to ghosts and help these murder victims find their killers so they can rest in peace. But Gideon is also haunted by this ghost of a little girl who tells him that she is he's daughter but Gideon doesn't have a daughter and wonders who this little girl is. In comes Gideon's new partner and the woman he falls in love with Hope Malory but they both have to deal with this new serial killer that is a danger to both of their lives. And at the end of this thrilling and suspenseful novel we are still left to wonder about the last sibling of the Raintree family.
In Beverly Barton's Raintree: Sanctuary we meet the youngest sister Mercy Raintree who is the guardian of the Raintree family's sanctuary home place in the Smoky Mountains. This novel is the one that answers all the burning questions that the first two novels left use wondering with. It is the book where we finally find out how the battle between the evil Ansara and the good Raintree ends. Mercy Raintree deals with her past and finally confronts the King of the Ansara Judah Ansara, the man who wants to kill her and her family. In this novel you won't know what hit you and I loved reading it from cover to cover. The ending left me very satisfying but a bit sad because it had to end.
The sad news is that these books came out in the beginning of last year so they won't be available at bookstores except maybe used bookstores. I think they are still available online and I heard that there is going to be a Paperback - 3-in-1 Compilation Edition coming out in October for $14.95 so you may still be able to enjoy this wonderful paranormal series by these three talented authors. Here are the descriptions of the books from the back covers and pictures:
RAINTREE: INFERNO by Linda Howard $ 5.25 (Book 1)(280 Pages)

It's time to discover the Raintree Trilogy
Two hundred years after the Raintree clan defeated them, the Ansara wizards are rising again to take on their bitterest foes. As king, it’s up to Dante Raintree to protect his clan, but his heart—and maybe his loyalties—may be fatally divided when Lorna Clay walks into his life. Suddenly fire, always his to control, defeats him, taking with it his livelihood. Unsure whether Lorna is to blame yet unable to walk away from her. Dante faces the fight of his lifetime, a fight even his strength and that of the Raintree clan may not be enough to win.
RAINTREE: HAUNTED by Linda Winstead Jones $ 5.25 (Book 2)(283 Pages)
Their name is Raintree
It’s more than a last name; more than a notation on a family tree. It’s a mark of destiny. Each family member has a special gift, an otherworldly talent.
Gideon Raintree, a homicide detective, can harness electricity and talk to ghosts. He will need to wield gifts he’s kept hidden to solve his newest case—a relentless serial killer unleashed by the dark Ansara wizards. But first he must deal with his reaction to Hope Malory, his alluring new partner. He’d never planned on love in the midst of battle. With evil lurking at every turn, Gideon and Hope are in a race against time to save their love, their family…and their newly conceived child.
RAINTREE: SANCTUARY by Beverly Barton $ 5.25 (Book 3)(280 Pages)
The time has come for the battle to decide the Raintrees' fate...
War with their archrival, the evil Ansara clan, is unavoidable. For Mercy Raintree, a war means she must assume her position as guardian of the Sanctuary—the sacred Raintree home place deep in the Smoky Mountains. But doing so threatens to disclose her most prized secret—one Mercy has kept to herself for six years.
As the solstice looms and the battle heats up, Dranir Judah Ansara gathers his forces, intending to wipe every Raintree from the face of the land. Including Mercy, whom he’s claimed as his to kill. Then he comes face-to-face with her—and with her daughter, Eve. Will Mercy’s closely guarded secret change not only the outcome of the battle…but also Judah’s own bitter heart?

I absolutely love, love, LOVE Nora Roberts. I've been reading her books since my mom's friend gave me her daughter's old books and Nora Roberts' book Three Fates was in the mix with my first Catherine Coulter's Warrior Song. Montana Sky is a very suspenseful novel that kept me wanting more and it was divided into four parts for the four different seasons. It's also a LifetimeTV movie that is also out on DVD and I have to say the book is better than the movie but the movie was good because it did give a sorta more physical and visiual outlook on the characters. The movie had the names and characters alright but their where a lot of scenes that were never in the book and it made it a bit disappointing for me to watch. It is romantic too and I love that mixture of suspense and romance in a novel.
The book is about 3 sisters who hardly know each other ever exsited. The all had the same father but different mothers and only Willa Mercy knew her father because she lived and worked with him on their family ranch all her life. She expected the ranch to automatically come into her hands after her fathers death but she is sure in for a surprise when her half sisters come into the picture after the funeral. Tess is from Hollywood and so she plans to come to the ranch claim her third of the ranch so she can hightail it back to her life in Hollywood. Lily is coming out of a bad marriage so she's grateful for the place to stay at the ranch but she isn't expecting anything because she has only learned to expect disappointment and cruelty from men. All three of these ladies are going to have to suck it up if they want to keep the ranch and the men they fall in love with along the way makes for an wonderful and entertaining novel. I recommend this book for all romance readers and anyone who is not a romance reader read it anyway and you will become a true romance reader because it is that good and I can tell you this, Nora Roberts never disappoints. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:
MONTANA SKY $ 7.99 (480 Pages)
When Jack Mercy died, he left behind a lot of enemies…and a ranch worth nearly twenty million dollars. Now his three daughters—each born of a different marriage, and each unknown to the others—are gathered to hear the reading of the will. Willa, the only one who knew her father, boldly expects that everything will be hers. Tess, who has reluctantly flown in from Hollywood, just hopes to fly back with as much cash as possible—as soon as possible. And Lily would be grateful for anything; she has learned to expect disappointment, even cruelty, from men.
But the women are shocked to learn that before any of them can inherit, they must live together on the ranch for one year. They are sisters…and strangers. Now they face a challenge: to put their bitterness aside and live like family. To protect each other from danger—and unite against an enemy who threatens to destroy all. And finally, to weave together three very different worlds in this beautiful and isolated place called Montana…

Kathleen E. Woodiwiss is another author that I stumbled upon on one of my trips to Barnes & Noble looking for new books to buy. I saw this book and I read the description of it and I knew I had to get it because it was everything I loved to read about. I started reading the book but I just couldn't get into it in the beginning for some reason it just seemed to detailed and long winded. I loved the strong heroine Alaina MacGaren, she is what I would expect of the type of women of those times should be and not those weak and empty headed that I sometimes read about.
I thought that the Yankee and hero Cole Latimer was a strong and handsome character and someone that really complimented the heroine Alaina. I didn't much like some parts of the novel because it pissed me off a bit but I have to say it did make the story a bit more interesting over all. I'm glad that I didn't put the book down and left it half-way unread because the ending made up for the parts that were too detailed and a bit boring for me. It isn't my favorite of Ms. Woodiwiss but I enjoyed reading it. Here is the description of the book from the cover and picture:
ASHES IN THE WIND $ 6.99 (664 Pages)
Alaina MacGaren is forced to flee the devastation of her homeland in the guise of a young boy, only to find sanctuary in the arms of an enemy. Cole Latimer is a dashing Yankee surgeon who has served the Union faithfully, and his tender heart compels him to help a ragged, innocent “lad” in need—never suspecting the rags conceal a bewitching belle suspected of being a rebel spy.
But Alaina’s masquerade does not fool Cole for long. And the strength, courage, and breathtaking sensuality of this woman whom it would be treasonous to love sets duty and desire at war within him. Yet Destiny has joined them for good or ill—and they both must follow where their hearts would lead them, if they are to build a glorious new life together out of the ashes of the old.

Julie Garwood is one of many authors that I've stumbled upon on my many trips to Barnes and Noble. She writes both contemporary and historical romances but she is greatly known for her historcal romances because she's only written a couple of contemporaries. This book is considered by some a continuation of her historical romance Ransom but I think that both books are stand alone because you really don't need to read one to understand the other. Shadow Music does have the Laird Buchanan in a couple of scenes but he isn't mentioned all that much that you would need to read Ransom to understand his part in this novel.
I loved reading this novel because I read about familiar characters such as the Laird Buchanan but I also love the new characters in this book. I thought that Princess Gabrielle of St. Biel's past ancestors mysterious treasure was very interesting and it had me also thinking of what happen to all the gold that the King of St. Biel had melted down. Throughout the book Gabrielle and Laird Colm MacHugh had a very difficult journey to go through in order to find their own happy ending but it was a fun journey to read. I loved reading this book and I have to say that the ending was something that I really didn't see coming but I really enjoyed it and wasn't disappointed. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:
SHADOW MUSIC $ 25.95 (339 Pages)
Throughout her acclaimed writing career, Julie Garwood has captivated readers with characters who are compelling, daring, and bursting with life. Now one of the most popular novelists of our time proudly returns to her beloved historical romance roots—in a thrilling tale of love, murder, adventure, and mystery set against the haunting landscape of medieval Scotland.
For Princess Gabrielle of St. Biel, Scotland is a land of stunning vistas, wild chieftains, treacherous glens, and steep shadows—skullduggery, betrayal, and now murder. Prized for her exquisite beauty, the daughter of one of England’s most influential barons. Gabrielle is also a perfect bargaining chip for a king who needs peace in the Highlands: King John has arranged Gabrielle’s marriage to a good and gentle laird. But this marriage will never take place. For Gabrielle, everything changes in one last burst of freedom—when she and her guards come upon a scene of unimaginable cruelty. With one shot from her bow and arrow, Gabrielle takes a life, saves a life, and begins a war.
Within days, the Highlands are aflame with passions as a battle royal flares between enemies old and new. Having come to Scotland to be married, Gabrielle is instead entangled in Highland intrigue. For two sadistic noblemen, underestimating Gabrielle’s bravery and prowess may prove fatal. But thanks to a secret Gabrielle possesses, Colm MacHugh, the most feared man in Scotland, finds a new cause for courage. Under his penetrating gaze, neither Gabrielle’s body nor her heart is safe.
