I was at Barnes & Noble one day to just hang out and read some books to keep me busy during my day off of school. I saw this very interesting blue book that read Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye as the title and so I pulled it out of the bookcase and started reading the back cover with the description of the book. I thought that it was worth giving it a try and I saw that there was a second book right next to the one I pulled out. I found that this was the second book in the Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye Mystery Series and so I kept the books next to me and when I left later on in the day to go home I went to and bought both books. That was the day that I was hooked on the Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye Mystery Series and Victoria Laurie's devoted reader. So far there is 5 books in the series but there is a 6th book coming out in September of this year named Death Perception, that I can't wait to get my hands on. Here is the description of the books from the back cover and pictures:

I love reading Nicole Jordan's historical romance books. Her Paradise Series is one of her best that I loved and still love to read. For now there is only 4 books published in this series but Jordan wants to write a 5th but her publisher had asked her to postpone book 5 to write her new series The Courtship Wars. She's hoping that as soon as she can she will write up book 5 for the Paradise Series to complete it. Here is the description of the books from the back covers and pictures:

From Library Journal

While cleaning a funeral home late one night, Summer McAfee is taken hostage when a nude male body leaps off a preparing table. Over the next few days, Summer and the badly beaten, left-for-dead Steve Calhoun struggle to elude the bad guys, which include the police. Summer moves from fearing for her life to finding the love of her life. Despite skillful plot twists, humor, and clever use of a guardian ghost (Deedee, Steve's former lover), the book has a serious flaw. Although Walking is billed as a romantic thriller, Steve's initially cruel and brutal treatment of Summer is alarming. Veteran writer Robards (Maggy's Child, LJ 1/94) should know better than to perpetuate the myth that women unconsciously want to be dominated and victimized. Not recommended, despite its other qualities.

[Doubleday Book Club main selection and Literary Guild alternate; previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 10/1/94.].-Rebecca S. Kelm, Northern Kentucky Univ. Lib., Highland Height.--. Rebecca S. Kelm, Northern Kentucky Univ. Lib., Highland Heights. Copyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I just finished Karen Robards's Walking After Midnight and it was fantastic (the first time the protagonists meet, the man's stark naked in a funeral home. I can't even begin to tell you how freaked out the woman is. Think Ghostbusters, which seems to be her theme song throughout the book LOL) I really enjoyed that one. Somewhat paranormal, with lots of suspense and danger, and a good sprinkling of lovin'. Aww. This one keeps you on your toes.

I absolutely love, love, LOVE Nora Roberts. I've been reading her books since my mom's friend gave me her daughter's old books and Nora Roberts' book Three Fates was in the mix with my first Catherine Coulter's Warrior Song. So now I'm going to say that Three Fates was my absolutely favorite book out of all of Nora Roberts books because it was my first and it really brought out my reader instincts to analyze everything I was reading to figure out what was going to happen in the end. I recommend this book for all romance readers and anyone who is not a romance reader read it anyway and you will become a true romance reader because it is that good. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and picture:

THREE FATES $ 7.99 (486 Pages)

And Malachi, Gideon, and Rebecca Sullivan are determined to recover their great-great-grandfather’s treasure, reunite the Three Fates, and make their fortune.

I love Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Family Series because they are so fun and get into so much trouble on their journey to fall in love with the mates. The Bridgerton Famliy series is complete with 8 books for 8 siblings. Here are the descripions of the 2 most recent books in the series from the back cover and pictures:

Gareth’s sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past…and the key to his future. The problem is—it’s written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a world

All the ton agreed: there was no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. She’s fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken, and according to Gareth, probably best in small doses. But there’s something about her—something charming and vexing—that grabs him and won’t quite let go…

Or don’t. But rest assured, he’s spinning in his grave when Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual—and annually discordant—Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth’s every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. Well I wrote about Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, which is a very good series that I loved reading and can't wait for the next book to be written and published. Well the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series has been turned into a graphic novel that I also love reading. There are so far 8 out 12 comics out. The first 6 comics have been put together in a hardcover volume and there has been a hardcover graphic novel prequel of the whole Anita Blake series. Here is the description of the 2 hardcover graphic novels in the series from the cover flaps and pictures:

ANITA BLAKE, VAMPIRE HUNTER: GUILTY PLEASURES $19.99 (Graphic Novel, Volume 1)(164 Pages)

In a world where vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures are legal citizens of the United States, Anita Blake is an animator—someone who literally raises the dead for a living. But she moonlights as a vampire hunter, called in to resolve situations that are too much for conventional police to handle! Now, a series of murdered vampires are turning up across St. Louis, and Anita Blake has been recruited to bring the killer to justice. But it’s not just he police who want her help, this time. It’s the vampires themselves!

Adapted from the novel Guilty Pleasures by New York Times-bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton, the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter graphic novel introduces readers to the compelling world of Anita Blake and promises to seduce those who aren’t already fans!

ANITA BLAKE, VAMPIRE HUNTER: THE FIRST DEATH $19.99 (Graphic Novel)(164 Pages)

Anita Blake's adventures began with the novel Guilty Pleasures, where the vampires of the St. Louis area tried to recruit the veteran vampire hunter to help them solve a peculiar mystery. But there were many mysteries about Anita Blake's past that were left unanswered...until now.

Laurell K. Hamilton and Jonathon Green have finally released the official prequel to the long-running novel series, written exclusively for comics, and featuring the adventures of a younger Anita Blake as she teams up with popular characters Edward and Jean-Claude for a vampire hunt fans will absolutely love sinking their teeth into. It's the perfect story for old and new fans alike!

Such wonderful children. Such a beautiful mother. Such a lovely house. Such endless terror!

It wasn't that she didn't love her children. She did. But there was a fortune at stake—a fortune that would assure their later happiness if she could keep the children a secret from her dying father.

So she and her mother hid her darlings away in an unused attic.

Just for a little while.

But the brutal days swelled into agonizing years. Now Cathy, Chris, and the twins wait in their cramped and helpless world, stirred by adult dreams, adult desires, served a meager sustenance by an angry, superstitious grandmother who knows that the Devil works in dark and devious ways. Sometimes he sends children to do his work--children who--one by one--must be destroyed....

'Way upstairs there are
four secrets hidden.
Blond, beautiful, innocent
struggling to stay alive....'

All right *breathes deep* This is the most beautifully horrifying series I have ever read. And I haven't even finished it yet. Got to the end of book 3 and couldn't go on knowing there was more. It's...too sad, too painful.

I loved it.

Read this book in particular during a thunderstorm and, boy, it gave me the creeps. Yes, it's beautiful. The word does not even capture the hopeful-turned-hopeless longing, the desperation, the disturbing love cycle, the vengeance that V.C. Andrews was able to weave in this old goodie that never gets old.

This is the start of a series that leaves you completely breathless, secretly hoping for the children's welfare, but knowing they won't get an ounce of it.

A perfect read.

The series continues with Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday and Garden of Shadows. You'll be enthralled. Wanting more. Feeling hurt. Wanting to soothe. Unable to.
From the author's website: Set in the Scottish Highlands during the time of The Bruce, The Devil of Kilmartin is the story of Symon, mad chief of the MacLachlans, and Elena, daughter of his enemy, the Lamont. Elena is the only one who can unlock the mystery of Symon's madness but will she trust the Devil enough to help him? Now for my part... I read this book (as an ebook) a year or so ago. You can tell the author did plenty of research to make her story as historically accurate as possible. The Kilmartin keep, the Scottish Highlands... everything is just as you'd expect in the hills and heather, and the characters behave according to their time period. Great :) but it leaves you with an odd feeling of emptiness once you're done. Elena's healing abilities were not explored, and worst of all, Symon's "devil" spells were almost completely ignored by those involved (why did no one try to figure out where they came from before Elena came along? Why weren't they described more in depth? Why couldn't we get Symon's point of view on them?), save for one grand exposition moment in the beginning while he goes haywire in the stone circle. Was he a brutal animal when he was under the devil-spell? If so, it was never shown in text or subtext. Laurin Wittig is a promising writer, but not breath-taking. Yet. This is Wittig's debut novel. There are two more: Charming the Shrew (yes, another take on the famous Shakespeare play) and Daring the Highlander, both of which sound very interesting. Anyway. Probably the more compelling scene in this book was when she had to heal him in front of all his clan. That got my attention. It was poignant, emotional, and very well-written. All in all, I very much enjoyed this book (gee, ya think? Seems I put it down more than I lauded it lol), and you'll very much enjoy this unknown author. There's talent there. I'm just a difficult reader ;)
MaryJanice Davidson is a really good author that I recommend to anyone who loves to laugh when they read a book. The Fred the Mermaid Series is a hilarious paranormal romance about a Mermaid named Fred and the Prince of the Merpeople named Artur and a Marine biologist named Thomas in this love triangle. Right now there are 2 books published and I'm hoping that a new book in this series will come out soon. This first book was such a joy to read and it was so funny. I think that Fred the mermaid is not what you would expect a mermaid to be like and that just makes the story so much more interesting. I really recommend this book and this series. I have the second book but haven't had time to read it yet but when I do I will write up my review. Here are the description of the book from the back of the cover and picture:
SLEEPING WITH THE FISHES $ 7.99 (Book 1)(284 Pages)
A Fish Out of Water
Fred is a mermaid. But stop right there. Whatever image you’re thinking of right now forget it. Fred is not blonde. She’s not buxom. And she’s definitely not perky. In fact, Fred can be downright cranky. And it doesn’t help matters that her hair is ocean-colored.

Being a mermaid does help Fred when she works at the New England Aquarium. But, needless to say, it’s there that she gets involved in something fishy. Weird levels of toxins have been found in the local water. A gorgeous marine biologist wants her help investigating. So does her merperson ruler, the High Prince of the Black Sea. You’d think it would be easy for mermaid to get to the bottom of things. Think again…

I love Dorothy Garlock and the Route 66 Series is one of her best series. Dorothy Garlock is a New York Times bestselling author and she is even quoted as "THE VOICE OF AMERICA'S HEARTLAND." Dorothy Garlock writings mostly in the time period of the 1920s and 1930s but she also writes in the time period of the 1980s. I personally love to read her books, which I stumbled on to while I was walking around Barnes & Noble one day searching for new books. Jason wants to breed and race horses, primarily his own Thoroughbred, Dodger, who’s faster than a Baltimore pickpocket. When his twin, James, takes him to Lyon’s Gate, a once-renowned racing stud farm near his family’s home, Jason knows to his soul that this property is what he wants more than anything.

Unfortunately, Hallie Carrick (Night Storm) wants Lyon’s Gate just as badly as Jason, and she’s fully prepared to fight him down and dirty to get it. Now life and fate take a hand, and the two of them end up with something neither expected. Come to Lyon’s Gate in 1835 England, visit with the Sherbrookes and see Jason come back to fullness and joy of life. Prepare to laugh yourself silly.

Since this book and series has already been described in detail, I thought about adding my own thoughts to the mix ;) Shadow Dance was the first of the Buchanan series I read (true to my nature I read the rest of series in disorder haha), and I fell totally in love with Garwood's contemporaries (Noah, especially. He's such a goofball *loves*). I later read a few of her historicals and didn't quite enjoy them as much as her contemporaries *shrugs* But that's personal preference. I know lots of people prefer her historicals over her contemps. But, I digress. So, here goes: This book is a romance and thriller at once. Add in some contemporary shake, and you've got Shadow Dance. I rather liked that the title is a play on Jordan's father's situation (bodyguards shadowing his every step) inadvertently happening to her when she finds the dead body of a historian she's met two days prior in the trunk of her car and her brother Nick and Noah Clayborne, two FBI agents, fly at her aid. Hence, being shadowed by bodyguards of sort. Then Nick has to leave, for matters unknown, and suddenly begins a dance of should-shouldn'ts with Noah even as they try to find the real murderer, who proves to be one heck of a surprise. This is a great read, and I found it refreshing, witty and intelligent and less tedious than some of her previous works. The writing is fast-paced, which makes sense as this is a thriller as well, and Jordan and Noah's relationship does not bloom quite as suddenly as has been said. Re-reading through it, you'll find that Noah unknowingly had feelings WAY before they even began *cough* dancing. Anyway, hopefully we'll get to read more about Jordan and Noah and their treasure hunt!
From the author's website:

He hears strange voices in his head. She sees things no human was ever meant to witness. Together they have the power to save us all. But will they realize their destiny... before time runs out?

April 2007 Silhouette Nocturne

CDN$ 6.25 on This is an interesting start for the Dark Gate series, but the paranormal seems to eat up the story. I felt like the story was a bit empty on a whole, the romance was stilted and overdone... when it was even there. I don't personally mind if there's not much romance in a paranormal adventure (is is an adventure after all) but the author kept writing about how sexy her characters were, and then went off on a tangent. I felt the two main characters' relationship, whether sexual or strictly sensual, wasn't quite as defined as it could have been. Turned me off from the romance. The paranormal intrigue, though, was very interesting, and I found myself wanting to know more about the Esri. Yes, there is another book coming up soon, but as a stand-alone it's missing... something. Not the best fiction I've read, but I might give it another go with the next book. After all, this is a debuting author. We'll see...
From the author's site:

THE SACRED ISLE All who dwelt in Avalon possessed the powers of the Old Ones. But only some were Keepers of the Light. One among them had darded to call upon the Deep Magic, conjuring a dark storm that boded ill for the people of Britannia...

OWEIN The vision came upon him suddenly: a delicate Roman beauty materializing out of the swirling whiteness of the snow. Her appearance near his ruined Celtic village made no sense, but when the trance left him, she remained, demanding that he use his Sight to help her find a stolen grail. The last thing he intended was to use his gifts for the good of his enemy, yet something told him this innocent lass had the power to touch him, to bring warmth where there had only been coldness, and to heal his wounded heart.

CDN$ 6,99 on From the author of Immortals: The Awakening and soon-to-be-released Immortals: The Crossing (October 2008), The Grail King is a fascinating take on the history of the Holy Grail. No one's ever really talked about exactly when it was created, or how long it's been around, so the author sure weaved a novel take on the beginning of a myth. I was turning pages like they were carrots I craved (umm, I go on carrot-eating binges once in a while, so sue me). Excellent characterisation, excellent plot, excellent read... excellent all-around! This is an author that hasn't been very talked about, but I went out and bought this strictly on gut feeling, and I'm very happy I did. There's promise there for sure! edit: Just a little itty bitty thing that bothered me about this book was the cover. I'm a design student so I can see pixels at a distance. So... pixellated cover. The book is no less enjoyable, but it's like an itch I can't scratch and I know it's there.

I love reading Katie MacAlister's books because she writes romance either contemporary, paranormal or historical and they have a way about it that makes me laugh when I read. Her books are always fun to read and I enjoy them. The Dark Ones Series is a very good series that I loved reading and there are 5 books out in this series and I hope there will be more. Here is the description of the book from the back cover and pictures:

A GIRL’S GUIDE TO VAMPIRES $ 6.99 (Book 1)(374 Pages)

Joy Randall’s Top 5 Tips for Vampire Hunters

1. Location, location, location. Remember, if you wouldn’t be there, neither would a bloodsucker. They won’t be found dead (ha!) in places like discos, ten-minute lube shops, or Switzerland. Check the Czech Republic.

2. Trust your eyes. You know the handsome, annoyingly arrogant, self-assured man in the shadows with long hair and a cleft in his chin? He’s your vampire.

3. No matter how tempting it might be, DO NOT “ACCIDENTALLY” ACQUIRE A PAPER CUT AND SUGGEST YOUR VAMPIRE KISS YOUR FINGER TO MAKE IT BETTER. What you offer as a snack, he might take for a four-course meal.

4. From here on out, play it cool. Don’t offer to accompany your prince of the night on the talk show circuit and WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T OFFER HIM YOUR HEART.

5. And most of all, remember—being a vampire is nothing to laugh about.

SEX & THE SINGLE VAMPIRE $ 6.99 (Book 2)(371 Pages)

Allergra’s Dictionary of the Paranormal

DARK ONE n. [Origin Czech, also known as vampires] A Moravian Dark One is doomed to spend his lifetime cruising the singles’ scene in search of the one woman who can redeem his soul. You think dating is hard? Try it when you’re nine hundred years old and you’ve used every pickup line in the book. Forming a lasting relationship is even more difficult when the woman who makes your heart sing sees dead people and likes to play with demons.

SUMMONER n. [Origin English] Someone who summons ghosts, poltergeists, and demon lords. Summoners tend to hang around cities like London that are filled with portals to Hell, haunted inns, and other locations dishy with vampires might be found lurking. Most Summoners are female, which makes for difficulties when it comes to explaining to the man who haunts your dreams and fills your soul with love why your pet ghosts can be found hovering around even in the most romantic of circumstances.

SEX, LIES & VAMPIRES $ 6.99 (Book 3)(342 Pages)

Instructors: Nell Harris, Charmer
Adrian Tomas, Dark One

Class Description: Are you responsible for lifting a centuries-old curse from the sexist vampire you’ve ever seen? Does a demon lord want to destroy you? Have you somehow inadvertently bound several mummies to your soul? If you answered yes…well, you’re in big trouble. Let us show you how the power of love can salvage even the worst of situations…not to mention the most tormented of me.

Duration: A lifetime

EVEN VAMPIRES GET THE BLUES $ 6.99 (Book 4)(359 Pages)

Paen Scott is a Dark One: a vampire without a soul. And his mother is about to lose hers too if Paen can’t repay a debt to a demon by finding a relic known as the Jilin God in five days. Half-elf Samantha Cosse may have gotten kicked out of the Order of Diviners, but she’s still good at finding things, which is why she just opened her own private investigation agency. Paen is one of Sam’s first clients and the only one to set her elf senses tingling, which makes it pretty much impossible to keep their relationship on a professional level. Sam is convinced that she is Paen’s Beloved—the woman who can give him his soul…whether he wants it or not.

THE LAST OF THE RED HOT VAMPIRES $ 7.99 (Book 5)(354 Pages)

Physicist Portia Harding’s life grounded in facts. There’s nothing that can’t be explained by logic and science…until she travels with her best friend to England and accidentally summons an ethereal virtue who bequeaths her gift of weather control to Portia.

Now Portia is walking around with a literal cloud over her head and a heart-stoppingly handsome maniac trying to kidnap her. But Theondre North is now run-of-the-mill lunatic. He’s a nephilim—the son of an angel—who needs Portia’s help to change his fate. Problem is, Portia’s down-to-earth attitude frustrates beings from both heavenly and hellish realms, and gets Theo turned into a vampire. But at least he has Portia to satisfy his new found hungers…and possibly save his soul.

I found out from a friend (anixela) who has a account that it's a place where you can write you stories and have other people write reviews about it. I think that this is going to be great for my writing and it will give me some practice on what people would think of my writing. I haven't written anything and I probably won't right now because I'm busy with school but probably over the summer I'll have some stories written and on my FictionPress account. Here is a link directly to my account and my pen name is PhoebeJordan. I also found out from the same friend who I found out about the FictionPress website that she also has a account and that it's a place where you can write you stories and have other people write reviews about it. Well I wrote about Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series, which is a very good series that I loved reading and can't wait for the next book to be written and published. Well the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series is Hamilton's other best series that I also love reading. There are 15 books already published and the 16th book in the series named Blood Noir is coming out on Tuesday, June 3rd. Here is the description of the 2 most recent books in the series from the cover flaps and pictures:

DANSE MACABRE $ 24.95 (Book 14)(483 Pages)(also in mass market paperback for $ 7.99)

It was the middle of November. I was supposed to be out jogging, but instead I was sitting at my breakfast table talking about men, sex, werewolves, vampires, and that thing that most unmarried but sexually active women fear most. Anita Blake needs to be concentrating on a dangerous situation: The ardeur, the sexual power that flows between Anita and Jean-Claude, Master Vampire of the City, and Richard, the volatile werewolf who loves her passionately, is reaching new levels, perhaps evolving into something altogether new. The ardeur seems to be choosing new lovers for Anita, acting with a will of its own. As Jean-Claude says, the ardeur is hunting powerful prey. The unexpected effect of this is that Jean-Claude’s own power as a Master Vampire has grown to new levels—and Richard, never predictable, is changing, too. But as the days pass, Anita’s less interested in vampire politics than in ancient, ordinary dread she shares with woman down the ages: she may be pregnant. And, if she is, whether the father is a vampire, a werewolf, or someone else entirely, she knows perfectly well that being a Federal Marshal known for raising the dead and executing vampires is no way to bring up a baby.

THE HARLEQUIN $ 25.95 (Book 15)(422 Pages)(also in mass market paperback for $ 7.99 coming out on Tuesday, April 29th)

I have felt such power only once before…

Malcolm, head of the vampire Church of Eternal Life, is no particular friend of Anita Blake. So when he shows up in her office to ask for her help against creatures so feared that no vampire will willingly speak their name, Anita is surprised. But she believes him. Malcolm may not be a Master of the City, but he’s an old and powerful vampire, a leader of men, and he does not easily ask for help—especially from Anita and Jean-Claude, whose power Malcolm considers corrupt. That was the first warning of the Harlequin.

The second warning is presented like a gift, left where she’d be sure to find it, with “Anita” printed on the box. Inside, carefully wrapped in folds of pristine tissue paper, is a white mask, utterly plain. The fact that it’s white, Jean-Claude tells her, is the good news. White means they are only being watched.

The flow of power that connects Anita Blake with Jean-Claude, vampire Master of the City, and with Richard, Ulfric of the werewolves, has been growing and changing, increasing exponentially. Their power seems to have attracted attention, and it’s a kind of attention no one would desire. Jean-Claude and Richard need to be strong allies now. Nathaniel and Micah need to give all their love and aid. And Anita will need to call on Edward, whose utterly human ruthlessness in her defense makes him the right man for the job.

Anita Blake has the authority to pass judgment on vampires. The Harlequin have the authority to pass judgment on her. It is forbidden to speak of the Harlequin unless you’ve been contacted.
