Today's Thursday Thirteen edition I will be writing 13 things about my favorite author Laurell K. Hamilton. All of this information is quoted from her website, Laurell K. Hamilton.
Thirteen Things about Laurell K. Hamilton

1. Laurell has always been fascinated with the darker side of things. Staying up late, alone, as a child to catch the Creature Feature on television. 2. When Laurell was 13, she discover a short story collection titled "Pigeons from Hell". "It was the first heroic fantasy I'd read. It was fights, swords, monsters I decided not only did I want to become a writer, it was this I wanted to write". She chanced upon another book in the high school library "The Natural History of the Vampire". She read it so many times she nearly memorized it. When it's suggested that her choice of creepy films and stories were unseemly when her friends' companions were dolls: "I wasn't like most girls" she said. 3. Laurell does not shy away from sex or violence in her books. "I was a kiss to be so believable it give the reader shivers. Two things I do well are sex and violence, but I don't want gratuitous sex or violence. The sex and violence is only as graphic as need be. And never included unless it furthers the plot, world building or character development. Everyone [in the book] has someone to lust after, but Anita is like me. She doesn't see herself as a lust object.". 4. A question that gets asked a lot is "What is Laurell really like?" Hmmmm.... She is not Anita, though you can see bits of Anita in her. She is the truly the warm, generous, friendly person you see at cons and signings. I am blessed by her continuing friendship. 5. Before her writing career kept her so busy she volunteered at an animal shelter. Not as a keeper but as a person who went out and shared time and love with unwanted pets. Unfortunately, she had to drop that from her busy schedule. She says that all work and no play makes the writer grumpy. But I have never seen her act that way. 6. She writes as fast as she can manage. And that brings up the topic of publication dates. Laurell does not set these, the publisher does. It is a complicated formula of length of time from last book by author, other authors who are publishing something, printer schedules and multiple bookhouses juggling. Laurell has little control over the when. 7. I know she wishes she could answer each fan mail herself. But if she did that we would get no books! She gets a lot of mail. And for those wondering, Laurell is a self admitted technophobe (read the computer confuses her), though she is learning to use the email with help from her friends. 8. The awe she generates often confuses her. She sees herself as an ordinary person, nothing special. 9. She writes because to not write even for her own enjoyment would be like not breathing. It is just something she has to do. Thankfully she is willing to share that wonderful talent with us all. 10. She lives in St. Louis County Missouri with her husband Jonathon Green, daughter, two pug dogs and one boxer/pug dog. 11. Laurell K. Hamilton is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of two series that mix mystery, fantasy, magic, horror and romance. Her Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter novels from Berkley Books began with GUILTY PLEASURES (now a hugely successful graphic novel from Marvel - the first sexy paranormal comic ever!) and continues with the BLOOD NOIR , number sixteen in the series, in which Anita's complex personal and professional relationships with a master vampire and an alpha werewolf continue to evolve. 12. There are now more than 6 million copies of Anita in print worldwide, in 16 languages. Hamilton's Ballantine series features Fey princess and private investigator, Merry Gentry and there are now five novels exceeding one million copies in print. A LICK OF FROST, the sixth in the series debuted October 23, 2007. 13. She invites you to visit her website, her message board, her blog and her MySpace.

Well I wrote about Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series, which is a very good series that I loved reading and can't wait for the next book to be written and published. Well the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series is Hamilton's other best series that I also love reading. There are 15 books already published and the 16th book in the series named Blood Noir came out earlier than when I last posted about the Anita Blake Series. It came out Tuesday, May 27 and I was really glad to finally have the book. The cover isn't like the others but I think the book is also a bit different than the others. It is also not very big like the others and I thought it could have gone a bit longer but I'm not the writer so I have not control of that. Here is the description of the book from the cover flap and picture:

BLOOD NOIR $ 25.95 (Book 16)(340 Pages)

Now the old bastard’s dying and I won’t have time to forgive before goes…

Jason Schuyler is a werewolf. He’s also one of Anita Blake’s best friends, and sometimes her lover. And right now he needs her—not to be a vampire hunter, or a federal marshal, or a necromancer, or even for her rank in the werewolf pack, but because his father is dying. He needs Anita because she’s a pretty woman who loves him, who can make him look like an everyday guy, who agrees to go home with him and help him say good-bye to the abusive father he never loved. The fact that Jason is about as much an everyday guy as Anita is a pretty woman is something they figure they can keep under wraps for a couple of days in a small town. How hard can that be?

Really, by now, Anita Blake should know better.

Marmee Noir, ancient mother of all vampires, picks this weekend to make a move. Somehow she has cut the connection that binds Anita and Jean-Claude, leaving Jean-Claude unable to sense what is happening. Dangerous even as she sleeps, buried in darkness for a thousand years somewhere beneath the old country of Europe, Marmee Noir reaches out toward power. She has attacked Anita before, but never like this. In Anita she senses what she needs to make her enemies tremble…

Well I wrote about Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, which is a very good series that I loved reading and can't wait for the next book to be written and published. Well the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series has been turned into a graphic novel that I also love reading. There are so far 8 out 12 comics out. The first 6 comics have been put together in a hardcover volume and there has been a hardcover graphic novel prequel of the whole Anita Blake series. Here is the description of the 2 hardcover graphic novels in the series from the cover flaps and pictures:

ANITA BLAKE, VAMPIRE HUNTER: GUILTY PLEASURES $19.99 (Graphic Novel, Volume 1)(164 Pages)

In a world where vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures are legal citizens of the United States, Anita Blake is an animator—someone who literally raises the dead for a living. But she moonlights as a vampire hunter, called in to resolve situations that are too much for conventional police to handle! Now, a series of murdered vampires are turning up across St. Louis, and Anita Blake has been recruited to bring the killer to justice. But it’s not just he police who want her help, this time. It’s the vampires themselves!

Adapted from the novel Guilty Pleasures by New York Times-bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton, the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter graphic novel introduces readers to the compelling world of Anita Blake and promises to seduce those who aren’t already fans!

ANITA BLAKE, VAMPIRE HUNTER: THE FIRST DEATH $19.99 (Graphic Novel)(164 Pages)

Anita Blake's adventures began with the novel Guilty Pleasures, where the vampires of the St. Louis area tried to recruit the veteran vampire hunter to help them solve a peculiar mystery. But there were many mysteries about Anita Blake's past that were left unanswered...until now.

Laurell K. Hamilton and Jonathon Green have finally released the official prequel to the long-running novel series, written exclusively for comics, and featuring the adventures of a younger Anita Blake as she teams up with popular characters Edward and Jean-Claude for a vampire hunt fans will absolutely love sinking their teeth into. It's the perfect story for old and new fans alike!

DANSE MACABRE $ 24.95 (Book 14)(483 Pages)(also in mass market paperback for $ 7.99)

It was the middle of November. I was supposed to be out jogging, but instead I was sitting at my breakfast table talking about men, sex, werewolves, vampires, and that thing that most unmarried but sexually active women fear most. Anita Blake needs to be concentrating on a dangerous situation: The ardeur, the sexual power that flows between Anita and Jean-Claude, Master Vampire of the City, and Richard, the volatile werewolf who loves her passionately, is reaching new levels, perhaps evolving into something altogether new. The ardeur seems to be choosing new lovers for Anita, acting with a will of its own. As Jean-Claude says, the ardeur is hunting powerful prey. The unexpected effect of this is that Jean-Claude’s own power as a Master Vampire has grown to new levels—and Richard, never predictable, is changing, too. But as the days pass, Anita’s less interested in vampire politics than in ancient, ordinary dread she shares with woman down the ages: she may be pregnant. And, if she is, whether the father is a vampire, a werewolf, or someone else entirely, she knows perfectly well that being a Federal Marshal known for raising the dead and executing vampires is no way to bring up a baby.

THE HARLEQUIN $ 25.95 (Book 15)(422 Pages)(also in mass market paperback for $ 7.99 coming out on Tuesday, April 29th)

I have felt such power only once before…

Malcolm, head of the vampire Church of Eternal Life, is no particular friend of Anita Blake. So when he shows up in her office to ask for her help against creatures so feared that no vampire will willingly speak their name, Anita is surprised. But she believes him. Malcolm may not be a Master of the City, but he’s an old and powerful vampire, a leader of men, and he does not easily ask for help—especially from Anita and Jean-Claude, whose power Malcolm considers corrupt. That was the first warning of the Harlequin.

The second warning is presented like a gift, left where she’d be sure to find it, with “Anita” printed on the box. Inside, carefully wrapped in folds of pristine tissue paper, is a white mask, utterly plain. The fact that it’s white, Jean-Claude tells her, is the good news. White means they are only being watched.

The flow of power that connects Anita Blake with Jean-Claude, vampire Master of the City, and with Richard, Ulfric of the werewolves, has been growing and changing, increasing exponentially. Their power seems to have attracted attention, and it’s a kind of attention no one would desire. Jean-Claude and Richard need to be strong allies now. Nathaniel and Micah need to give all their love and aid. And Anita will need to call on Edward, whose utterly human ruthlessness in her defense makes him the right man for the job.

Anita Blake has the authority to pass judgment on vampires. The Harlequin have the authority to pass judgment on her. It is forbidden to speak of the Harlequin unless you’ve been contacted.

Here is the list of all the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Series books in order as Laurell K. Hamilton has them:

I just created a cool FORUM for my website yesterday! You know that there are some authors who have a forum where their readers can post about the books the authors written and where the members could post about themselves and post games and such. Well I decided to look for a place where I could get a FREE forum so I can do just like some of those authors. OMG I can't believe I actually made one and it's all thanks to my friend from the KMM forum known as MacKelterLover. I asked her advice on what she thought of me created this forum and she told me to go for it and I did. Now I just have to tell everyone I know what is going on so they can also join me in posting on this cool new forum. I can't wait to see how this whole thing will turn out. So whoever wants to join all you have to do is going to my website called Ivette's Place and click on the tab that says Ivette's Place Forum and there is the link that will lead you to the forum that I created. I have a lot of things that people can talk about such as themselves, writers and aspiring writers, movies, TV shows, books and authors, and so much more (I have special rooms for certain authors). So all I will say is ENJOY!

I started re-reading the Merry Gentry Series by Laurell K. Hamilton since I bought the new Merry Gentry book. So far there are 6 books in the series but there Laurell K. Hamilton has annouced on her website that the 7th book in the series will be called Sallowing Darkness and will come out late in 2008.

A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton $ 7.99 (Book 1)(468 pages)

But now the queen’s assassin has been dispatched to fetch her back—whether she likes it or not. Suddenly Meredith finds herself a pawn in her aunt’s deadly game. The job that awaits her: enjoy the constant company of the most beautiful immortal men in the world. The reward: the crown—and the opportunity to continue to live. The penalty for failure: death.

A Caress of Twilight by Laurell K. Hamilton $ 7.99 (Book 2)(348 pages)

“I am Princess Meredith, heir to a throne—if I can stay alive long enough to claim it.”

After eluding relentless assassination attempts by Prince Cel, her cousin and rival for the Faerie crown, Meredith Gentry, Los Angeles private eye, has a whole new set of problems. To become queen, she must bear a child before Cel can father one of his own. But havoc lies on the horizon: people are dying in mysterious, frightening ways, and suddenly the very existence of the place known as Faerie is at grave risk. So now while Meredith enjoys the greatest pleasures of her life with the warriors of her royal guard she must fend off an ancient evil that could destroy the very fabric of reality. And that’s just her day job….

Seduced by Moonlight by Laurell K. Hamilton $ 7.50 (Book 3)(409 pages)

“I am Meredith Gentry, P.I., and Princess Merry, heir to the throne of Faerie. Now there are those among my guards who whisper I am more.”

Meredith’s aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness, is no longer distracted by her usual sadistic hobbies. Her obsession has turned unwaveringly to her niece, hiding among humans in Los Angeles. The queen’s mission to get Meredith pregnant and beat her cousin Cel to the crown is taking longer than expected. Even though Meredith spends each night with the queen’s immortal guards, no child has come of their decadent pleasures. But something else is happening. Enemies are growing in number every day. Meredith’s magic surges through her like never before, transforming her in wild and unpredictable ways. And Meredith is just beginning to learn what incredible power she possesses….

A Stroke of Midnight by Laurell K. Hamilton $ 7.99 (Book 4)(385 pages)

“How much of my human side will I give up, and how much of the sinister side of Faerie will I have to embrace? To sit on a throne that has ruled through bloodshed for centuries, I might have to become that which I dread most.”

In Los Angeles she is Meredith Gentry, private investigator. In the faraway world of Faerie she is Princess Meredith, heir to a dark throne. In this realm of peril and deception, adversaries watch her every move, while the enemies of her aunt, the queen, lay in wait to usurp power for the first time in history, human police will enter Faeries—and Meredith will need all her allies when fate leads her into the arms of Mistral, Master of Storms, the captain of the guard. Their passion will awaken powers long forgotten among the warriors of the court—and as Meredith’s enemies gather, both courts of faerie will face dire threat.

Mistral's Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton $ 23.95 (Book 5)(212 pages)(also in mass market paperback for $ 7.99)

I am Princess Meredith, heir to a throne of Faerie. My day job, once upon a time, was a private detective in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, princess has now become a full-time occupation.

My aunt Queen Andais will have it no other way. And so I am virtually a prisoner in faerie—trapped here with some of the realm’s most beautiful men to serve as my bodyguards…and my lovers. For I am compelled to conceive a child: an heir to succeed me on the throne. Yet after months of amazing sex with my consorts, there is still no baby. And no baby means no throne. The only certainly is death at the hands of my cousin Cel, or his followers, if I fail to conceive.

Now Mistral, Queen Andais’s new captain of the guards, has come to my bed—defying her and risking her terrible wrath in doing so. But even she will hesitate to punish him in jealous rage, because our joining has reawakened old magic mystical power so ancient that no one stands against it and survives. Not even my strongest and most favored: my Darkness and my Killing Frost. Not even Mistral himself, my Storm Lord. But because Mistral has helped to bring this magic forth, he may life another day.

If I can reclaim control of the fey power that once was, there may be hope for me and my reign in faerie. I might yet quell the dark schemes and subterfuges surrounding me. Though shadows of obsession and conspiracy gather, I may survive.

A Like of Frost by Laurell K. Hamilton $ 24.95 (Book 6)(272 pages)

I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne in the realm of faerie, onetime private investigator in the mortal world. To be crowned queen, I must first continue the royal bloodline and give birth to an heir of my own. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel, as monarch…and kill me.

My royal guards surround me, and my best loved—my Darkness and my Killing Frost—are always beside me, sworn to protect and make love to me. But still the treat grows greater. For despite all my carnal efforts I remain childless, while the machinations of my sinister, sadistic Queen and her confederates remain tireless. So my bodyguards and I have slipped back into Los Angeles, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But even exile isn’t enough to escape the grasp of those with dark designs.

Now King Taranis, powerful and vain-glorious ruler of faerie’s Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime—and has gone so far as to ask the mortal authorities to prosecute. If he succeeds, my men face extradition to faerie and the hideous penalties that await them there. But I know that Taranis’s charges are baseless, and I sense that his true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child. Now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying.
