I was at Barnes & Noble one day to just hang out and read some books to keep me busy during my day off of school. I saw this very interesting blue book that read Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye as the title and so I pulled it out of the bookcase and started reading the back cover with the description of the book. I thought that it was worth giving it a try and I saw that there was a second book right next to the one I pulled out. I found that this was the second book in the Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye Mystery Series and so I kept the books next to me and when I left later on in the day to go home I went to and bought both books. That was the day that I was hooked on the Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye Mystery Series and Victoria Laurie's devoted reader. So far there is 5 books in the series but there is a 6th book coming out in September of this year named Death Perception, that I can't wait to get my hands on. I love reading Nicole Jordan's historical romance books. Her Paradise Series is one of her best that I loved and still love to read. For now there is only 4 books published in this series but Jordan wants to write a 5th but her publisher had asked her to postpone book 5 to write her new series The Courtship Wars. From Library JournalWhile cleaning a funeral home late one night, Summer McAfee is taken hostage when a nude male body leaps off a preparing table. Over the next few days, Summer and the badly beaten, left-for-dead Steve Calhoun struggle to elude the bad guys, which include the police. Summer moves from fearing for her life to finding the love of her life. Despite skillful plot twists, humor, and clever use of a guardian ghost (Deedee, Steve's former lover), the book has a serious flaw. Although Walking is billed as a romantic thriller, Steve's initially cruel and brutal treatment of Summer is alarming. Veteran writer Robards (Maggy's Child, LJ 1/94) should know better than to perpetuate the myth that women unconsciously want to be dominated and victimized. Not recommended, despite its other qualities.

I just finished Karen Robards's Walking After Midnight and it was fantastic (the first time the protagonists meet, the man's stark naked in a funeral home. I can't even begin to tell you how freaked out the woman is. Think Ghostbusters, which seems to be her theme song throughout the book LOL) I really enjoyed that one. Somewhat paranormal, with lots of suspense and danger, and a good sprinkling of lovin'. Aww. This one keeps you on your toes.

I absolutely love, love, LOVE Nora Roberts. I've been reading her books since my mom's friend gave me her daughter's old books and Nora Roberts' book Three Fates was in the mix with my first Catherine Coulter's Warrior Song. So now I'm going to say that Three Fates was my absolutely favorite book out of all of Nora Roberts books because it was my first and it really brought out my reader instincts to analyze everything I was reading to figure out what was going to happen in the end. I recommend this book for all romance readers and anyone who is not a romance reader read it anyway and you will become a true romance reader because it is that good. I love Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Family Series because they are so fun and get into so much trouble on their journey to fall in love with the mates. I have all of her books except her novellas and I loved reading them. Quinn is a very good historical romance writer and I enjoy all of her books. Well I wrote about Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, which is a very good series that I loved reading and can't wait for the next book to be written and published. Well the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series has been turned into a graphic novel that I also love reading. There are so far 8 out 12 comics out. The first 6 comics have been put together in a hardcover volume and there has been a hardcover graphic novel prequel of the whole Anita Blake series. All right *breathes deep* This is the most beautifully horrifying series I have ever read. And I haven't even finished it yet. Got to the end of book 3 and couldn't go on knowing there was more. It's...too sad, too painful.
I loved it.
Read this book in particular during a thunderstorm and, boy, it gave me the creeps. Yes, it's beautiful. The word does not even capture the hopeful-turned-hopeless longing, the desperation, the disturbing love cycle, the vengeance that V.C. Andrews was able to weave in this old goodie that never gets old.
This is the start of a series that leaves you completely breathless, secretly hoping for the children's welfare, but knowing they won't get an ounce of it.
A perfect read.
The series continues with Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday and Garden of Shadows. You'll be enthralled. Wanting more. Feeling hurt. Wanting to soothe. Unable to.

Now for my part...
I read this book (as an ebook) a year or so ago. You can tell the author did plenty of research to make her story as historically accurate as possible. The Kilmartin keep, the Scottish Highlands... everything is just as you'd expect in the hills and heather, and the characters behave according to their time period. Great :) but it leaves you with an odd feeling of emptiness once you're done.
Elena's healing abilities were not explored, and worst of all, Symon's "devil" spells were almost completely ignored by those involved (why did no one try to figure out where they came from before Elena came along? Why weren't they described more in depth? Why couldn't we get Symon's point of view on them?), save for one grand exposition moment in the beginning while he goes haywire in the stone circle. Was he a brutal animal when he was under the devil-spell? If so, it was never shown in text or subtext. Laurin Wittig is a promising writer, but not breath-taking. Yet. This is Wittig's debut novel. There are two more: Charming the Shrew (yes, another take on the famous Shakespeare play) and Daring the Highlander, both of which sound very interesting.
Anyway. Probably the more compelling scene in this book was when she had to heal him in front of all his clan. That got my attention. It was poignant, emotional, and very well-written.
All in all, I very much enjoyed this book (gee, ya think? Seems I put it down more than I lauded it lol), and you'll very much enjoy this unknown author. There's talent there. I'm just a difficult reader ;) MaryJanice Davidson is a really good author that I recommend to anyone who loves to laugh when they read a book. The Fred the Mermaid Series is a hilarious paranormal romance about a Mermaid named Fred and the Prince of the Merpeople named Artur and a Marine biologist named Thomas in this love triangle. Right now there are 2 books published and I'm hoping that a new book in this series will come out soon. This first book was such a joy to read and it was so funny. I think that Fred the mermaid is not what you would expect a mermaid to be like and that just makes the story so much more interesting. I really recommend this book and this series. I have the second book but haven't had time to read it yet but when I do I will write up my review. Here are the description of the book from the back of the cover and picture:

I love Janet Chapman. I stumbled upon her books on a routine trip to Barnes & Noble that I take looking for new books to buy. She is an amazing Maine Romance Writer and I love her Highlander Series. I recommend for romance readers to pick up Janet Chapman's books especially her Highlander Series, which has magic and time travel involved. I love Dorothy Garlock and the Route 66 Series is one of her best series. Dorothy Garlock is a New York Times bestselling author and she is even quoted as "THE VOICE OF AMERICA'S HEARTLAND." Dorothy Garlock writings mostly in the time period of the 1920s and 1930s but she also writes in the time period of the 1980s. I personally love to read her books, which I stumbled on to while I was walking around Barnes & Noble one day searching for new books. Most of these 3 books have been hard to find so you may not find them unless you go to used book stores. Here is the book description from the back of the book and a picture:

I love reading Catherine Coulter's books and the Sherbrooke Bride Series is a one the best series that she has written. It's a historical romantic series with a lots of suspense and murder. This is one of her best series that I've ever read because the Sherbrooke family is not only have a loving family they also have ghosts and a lot of problems that following them. I've been reading her books since my mom's friend gave me her daughter's old books and Catherine Coulter's Warrior Song was in the mix with my first Nora Roberts book Three Fates. I have almost all of Catherine Coulter's books and I've read all of them. Here are the descriptions of the most resent book in the series from the back and the pictures:

Since this book and series has already been described in detail, I thought about adding my own thoughts to the mix ;)
Shadow Dance was the first of the Buchanan series I read (true to my nature I read the rest of series in disorder haha), and I fell totally in love with Garwood's contemporaries (Noah, especially. He's such a goofball *loves*). I later read a few of her historicals and didn't quite enjoy them as much as her contemporaries *shrugs* But that's personal preference. I know lots of people prefer her historicals over her contemps. But, I digress. So, here goes:
This book is a romance and thriller at once. Add in some contemporary shake, and you've got Shadow Dance. I rather liked that the title is a play on Jordan's father's situation (bodyguards shadowing his every step) inadvertently happening to her when she finds the dead body of a historian she's met two days prior in the trunk of her car and her brother Nick and Noah Clayborne, two FBI agents, fly at her aid. Hence, being shadowed by bodyguards of sort. Then Nick has to leave, for matters unknown, and suddenly begins a dance of should-shouldn'ts with Noah even as they try to find the real murderer, who proves to be one heck of a surprise.
This is a great read, and I found it refreshing, witty and intelligent and less tedious than some of her previous works. The writing is fast-paced, which makes sense as this is a thriller as well, and Jordan and Noah's relationship does not bloom quite as suddenly as has been said. Re-reading through it, you'll find that Noah unknowingly had feelings WAY before they even began *cough* dancing. Anyway, hopefully we'll get to read more about Jordan and Noah and their treasure hunt!

This is an interesting start for the Dark Gate series, but the paranormal seems to eat up the story. I felt like the story was a bit empty on a whole, the romance was stilted and overdone... when it was even there. I don't personally mind if there's not much romance in a paranormal adventure (is is an adventure after all) but the author kept writing about how sexy her characters were, and then went off on a tangent. I felt the two main characters' relationship, whether sexual or strictly sensual, wasn't quite as defined as it could have been. Turned me off from the romance. The paranormal intrigue, though, was very interesting, and I found myself wanting to know more about the Esri. Yes, there is another book coming up soon, but as a stand-alone it's missing... something. Not the best fiction I've read, but I might give it another go with the next book. After all, this is a debuting author. We'll see...

From the author of Immortals: The Awakening and soon-to-be-released Immortals: The Crossing (October 2008), The Grail King is a fascinating take on the history of the Holy Grail. No one's ever really talked about exactly when it was created, or how long it's been around, so the author sure weaved a novel take on the beginning of a myth. I was turning pages like they were carrots I craved (umm, I go on carrot-eating binges once in a while, so sue me). Excellent characterisation, excellent plot, excellent read... excellent all-around! This is an author that hasn't been very talked about, but I went out and bought this strictly on gut feeling, and I'm very happy I did. There's promise there for sure!
edit: Just a little itty bitty thing that bothered me about this book was the cover. I'm a design student so I can see pixels at a distance. So... pixellated cover. The book is no less enjoyable, but it's like an itch I can't scratch and I know it's there.

I love reading Katie MacAlister's books because she writes romance either contemporary, paranormal or historical and they have a way about it that makes me laugh when I read. Her books are always fun to read and I enjoy them. The Dark Ones Series is a very good series that I loved reading and there are 5 books out in this series and I hope there will be more.
