I am a paranormal romance author, no if, ands or buts about it. It is mostly what I read, and about the only thing I write. I got this confirmation of that a few weeks ago when I finished writing my first story without any paranormal elements in it. I had to giggle that my heroine ended up into reading paranormal romance, and there were all kinds of references to that effect.

People ask my why paranormal romance though, and I am not sure I have a clear answer even in my own mind. It fascinates me, no it enthralls me—and I just adore the escape. Problems are different when paranormal or fantasy elements are added into the plot. As is sex, *clears throat* but that is a whole other can of worms there. LOL.

Another thing I like is that the lessons in life that we all learn, well they can become complicated by the supernatural. Just consider knowing right from wrong. If you had certain powers, the lure of using them to your personal advantage without regard to others…what a heavy weight to bear. My latest hero, a sorcerer, had to deal with that very issue on several levels.

I wrote The Sorcerer’s Songs using my husband's song lyrics to create the plot. Actually, this story started with one specific song called, The Road. Click Here if you wish to listen to the song. The lyrics had always touched me, and just scratched at me to write a story. However, there were no paranormal elements in any of the songs I used. And yet, my first thought was, what powers can I give him. Immediately I thought with music being so influential, capable of having such an effect on people, it could be used in spells too. A little research both in the psychology field and into Wicca gave me a wealth of knowledge to work with…to let my imagination run away with.

It's been a while since I've had a guest blogger but I am happy to have paranormal and urban fantasy romance author Ashlynn Monroe who I've met online through the wonderful online publisher Wild Horse Press. She contacted me about reviewing a few of her recently published eBooks as well as interviewing her on my review blog, and then J.M. at Wild Horse Press contacted me about reviewing Ashlynn's debut novel, Hidden Magic. And don't forget that on Thursday, July 29th I will be chatting live with Linda on my live podcast show TAMFA—Phoebe Jordan about her paranormal and urban fantasy novels. She also has a written interview that I posted on Tuesday, July 27th if you want to learn more about Ashlynn. Now onto Ashlynn's guest blog about her 2 currently released novels:

How I wrote Passion's Escape:

I love science fiction. My very first terrible novel that I wrote as a teen was science fiction and I’ve never lost my love of writing the genre. I love the freedom of creating worlds completely out of my own imagination. I also identify with the battle that women have been fighting since time began, to find happiness in a man’s world. I wanted Passion to be just as her name described her, a woman with heart who was not afraid to use that heart. She is the strength of every woman, that’s why I dedicated the book to women everywhere. She’s the kind of woman who can take on a life or death battle of impossible odds and still be desirable and unafraid to enjoy pleasure. She’s one of my all time favorite characters to write. This is one of the stories that I wrote this year. I started it at the end of March and I had it finished by mid-April. This story was so much fun I wrote every spare moment of the day.

My first idea came to me about a woman who had to escape her planet using skills that are not typically ones a woman has, there aren’t too many female mechanics today and in the future, I’m doubtful that this will change. I wanted Passion to be smart and brave and I wanted the men in her life to arrive during her greatest conflict. They present her a better option and she takes it. I love that about her, she’s not afraid to take a gamble. I also wanted to write a book where the girl has two simultaneous lovers, I’ve never written anything like that before and I felt that Passion was just the character to try it out on.

I am finishing up my last semester before summer vacation and I have been so swamped with my readings, exams and such that I haven't had time to write up my reviews for all the books that I've been reading for publishers that have sent me books which isn't all that much. So I'm writing today because I need some help with trying to keep my blog active enough so that I don't lose the readers that I've have gotten since I opened my blog 2 years ago. So I'm looking for romance and young adult authors who would like to be interviewed on my blog and also guest blog about their books as well. I also am looking for anyone who happens to review books and wouldn't mind submitting a couple of their book reviews so I can post here with a link either to the original review you posted on your blog or a totally new review that you wouldn't mind me posting and linking back to your blog or website. I really appreciate anyone who can help me out and for my loyal readers who have stayed with me even though I've been a very bad blogger that hasn't kept her content updated regularly.

This week I have Sara Taney Humphreys on my blog for a written author interview and author guest blog. Today I have Sara guest blogging about her debut novel, The Amoveo Legacy. I've also had the pleasure of chatting with her live on my podcast show on Thursday, January 28th at 8PM to 9:30PM EST so if you want to listen to it you can download it to your computer or iTunes. And don't forget to read my written interview with Sara that I posted this past Tuesday. Now onto Sara's guest blog:

I've been told that I've got moxie. That little extra bit of oomph that pushes us. I'd like to think that's true. I have to say that I've always had a fertile imagination. I can remember playing "Star Trek" when I was just seven or eight. Of course Captain Kirk was my ultimate hero. He'd save me from the Klingons and declare his undying love for me. Sigh. I never said I was a cool kid...just an imaginative kid. I think that's where my love for paranormal romance began. I've always been drawn to the strange and unusual. Since I was very small I can remember being fascinated with ghosts and the afterlife. Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, shifters...all of it intrigue me and mystify me. There is something undeniably sexy about the unknown.

Today I have erotic romance author Lissa Matthews guest blogging about her upcoming release, Sugar Rush. I also had the pleasure of interviewing Lissa Matthews and I had such fun reading Lissa's answers and I hope you all enjoy reading it here. Now onto Lissa's guest blog:
* * * * * *
First of all, I’d like to thank Phoebe for allowing me to visit and share about my newest book. Sugar Rush is my first novella from Loose Id. I can’t tell you all how excited I am about this release. It’s a contemporary male/female erotic romance centering around plus-sized heroine Jane and cowboy turned travel writer Graham. You might be wondering why I say Graham is a cowboy turned writer, well, he grew up on a ranch in Texas and though he looks very good in cowboy boots and cowboy hat, he couldn’t wait to get out of the Lone Star State, see other places, meet other people. He went off to college, developed a panache for older women, for finding great out of the way places. And yes, I did mention Jane being plus-sized. It’s a good healthy plus-sized. Believe it or not, healthy is very possible, as is fit. Jane is a pretty, perky, and has become quite the snarky woman. It’s not that she doesn’t like men; she’s just sworn them off for a while. Oh, and did I mention the truffles? Jane, along with her business partner Edward, makes truffles. Decadent dark chocolate truffles with just a hint of heat. I have been asked how this concept came about and well…I haven’t the foggiest. I have a thing for baking. I love it. I have posted several recipes and my friends know that when I get in a funk with my writing, I’ll bake. I wanted something other than cakes because well, I’d already had a cake baker in another book. And then, I got to thinking about what we do when we’re sad, moping, depressed. A lot of us reach for chocolate. We might reach for wine or coffee or a run, but a lot of us reach for chocolate. After being dumped, Jane is no different. She reached for the chocolate. This book was a lot of fun to write. I had a blast with Jane’s snarkiness. She feels vulnerable and because of that, she lashes out and Graham, he’s a trooper. He lets her get it out of her system, lets her come to terms with things on her own, yet he stays by her, even after she’s tossed him out. This book is set in winter in Colorado. Denver and the surrounding mountains. I fell in love with the area when I was there a few years ago. We went in February when there was snow on the ground, ice in the mountains, but it was so beautiful. We went up to Pike’s Peak, over to Breckenridge, up to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We drove everywhere, in every direction within a hundred mile radius. It was a blast and it was inspiration, though at the time, I didn’t realize it. I live in North Carolina and when possible, my family and I go over to the Blue Ridge Parkway and rent a cabin in the mountains. The one we rent is on a cul-de-sac and it’s at the end, overlooking a valley with a Christmas tree farm in the distance. Behind it are woods and a stream. It has a wrap around deck, a front porch, a loft, a big stone fireplace and it was the other part of the inspiration for this novella. Graham’s cabin has a pond and the one I saw in Colorado, located in a valley did as well. At the time, it was iced over and the smoke coming from the chimney, well…it should have been on a post card. I am usually inspired by music, but occasionally I am inspired by more…a person, a scene, a place. Sugar Rush was a combination of place and music. I listened to a ton of country music during the writing of the novella and it seemed to fit Graham. It took a few months to complete the writing. It usually does take at least a couple months for me to get things exactly how I want them before I submit to a publisher. I am OCD when it comes to self-editing though, I have improved a great deal, there is always a good amount of editing and revisions I go through. I want the books I write to be the best they can be as do my editors. Sugar Rush is no different. I love these characters and the setting of this book. It made me want to take a trip to Denver again soon and I think I will first chance the opportunity arises. I would like to see the area in spring. I hope everyone enjoys reading Sugar Rush and again, I want to thank Phoebe for having me here today. ~Lissa Blurb:
Sugar Rush by Lissa Matthews
Graham Hall is twenty-six and has a dream job as a travel writer. He’s come to Colorado for work and a little personal down time. With his article done and the six-month lease up on the small cabin in the valley, he’s stayed around until his next assignment. In a downtown Denver bar, Graham meets Edward and after a short conversation agrees to a blind date with Edward’s business partner, Jane. After all, what could it hurt? Jane is completely oblivious to the machinations of Edward and Graham and shows up at Graham’s cabin to deliver a box of handmade chocolate truffles. From the minute he opens the door, she falls head over heels in lust. A plus size, mid-thirties woman, Jane isn’t sure what Cowboy Surfer, as she’s dubbed him, sees in her or why he’s so tenacious in his pursuit and tries throwing him off at every turn. The inability to say continue saying ‘No’ leads to hot, scorching sex and a lot of follow-up phone calls opening Jane’s eyes to the realization that maybe life doesn’t have to revolve around chocolate truffles, but rather around a delicious well traveled younger man. Despite his Southern blood, Graham is quite taken with the beauty of the winter wonderland that is the Rocky Mountains. After he meets local candy maker Jane, he’s taken with lust and hunger for more than the chocolate truffles she’s perfected. But, is their heat hot enough to melt her cold defenses?
* * * * * *
Excerpt:       “What the…?” Graham stood with his arms braced against the window frame and watched the wobbling woman outside on his front walk. Dressed from head to toe in pink and white fluff, she carried a pink box with a dark brown bow and was wearing the most absurd shoes.       Snow had fallen the previous night, and the drive up the mountains would have been a little tricky. She looked like a ski bunny, albeit a rather curvy one. He didn’t do ski bunnies. Much as he liked outdoorsy, adventurous women, something about the winter resort crowd had never appealed to him. He preferred privacy and solitary mountain escapes with roaring fires.       She stepped onto the porch and lowered the hood of her jacket. Her hair was a rich, dark brown wavy mass that stopped at her shoulders, and her cheeks were rosy from the cold. She was muttering something between barely moving lips, then pasted on a dazzling smile, shook her head, and knocked on the door.       Graham opened it, swung it wide, and grinned down at her. “My oh my.” He let his gaze travel leisurely from the top of her tousled mane to her pointed toes. She was a delectable, pink confection, crazy-ass footwear and all. From her mumbling on the porch and her scrunched-up face to the moment she shook it off and gave his door the most beautiful smile, his cock had stirred in his jeans and he’d had a funny feeling in the pit of his stomach.       “Oh. Wow. I, ummm…I have a delivery for…” She fumbled in her coat pocket then pulled out a card, stealing small glances up at him as her cheeks reddened further. He would bet his next paycheck it wasn’t from the cold this time. “For a Mr. Graham Hall. Are you him?”       He gave it an exaggerated thought. “If I wasn’t, I would certainly lie and say I was.” She frowned. He grinned. “What are you delivering?”        “Huh? Oh. Ummm, candy. Truffles, to be exact.”       She couldn’t stop staring at him. Did she like what she saw? He sure as hell did. “I didn’t order any truffles.”       “You didn’t?”       “Nope. I don’t even remember the last time I ate candy.”       Her frown deepened, and her brows furrowed. It was all he could do to keep from pulling her against him so he could taste those pouty lips. She was adorable. “I’m sorry for the mistake, Mr. Hall.”       “Quite all right. Would you like to come in and warm up for a bit? I can make some coffee or hot chocolate. I might even have some marshmallows around here.”       “I…uh, no, thank you. I should get back to town and see about clearing this up. I am so, so sorry for bothering you.”       She wasn’t looking at him any longer. “You didn’t. Bother me, that is, and I really must insist that you come in and get warm. Your feet have got to be cold in those…those shoes.” He grimaced as he said the word and took her by the arm, ushering her inside before she could say no again. Besides, it was damn cold out there, and he was glad to have the door closed.       She eased her arm out of his grip then backed up against the door. “Really, this isn’t necessary. My car has a very good heater and…wait, what’s wrong with my shoes?” she asked, looking down and wiggling her toes, lifting her feet off the ground one by one as if trying to see what he found so distasteful.        “They’re nothing but two pieces of leather, a couple of strings, and a spike.” And would be much better suited to digging into my ass while you were on your back. He cleared his throat and tried his best to ignore the dirty thoughts running through his mind. He glared down at her feet rather than looking at her face, at her lush mouth, in her expressive eyes. “They are the most ridiculous things to be wearing while trudging through the snow. How in the hell do you even walk in those on a good day, much less when there’s ice covering the streets and sidewalks?”       “I…well, it wasn’t snowing in the city, and I didn’t know I would have to trudge through the snow, and I park inside a garage, so I didn’t have to walk on any icy streets or sidewalks. At least I didn’t until I got here. You should really shovel your walkway. It’s dangerous not knowing where one is walking.” Her mouth had tightened, and her eyes had narrowed in his direction. She was not happy with him or his comments, and he was falling all over it, seeing her spark. Her smile twisted him all up inside, and her irritation with him did too. He loved that she couldn’t hide her emotions, that she showed everything she was feeling.       “Common sense should have told you that you wouldn’t be taking a leisurely stroll once you got up here. We’re in the mountains in winter. You need snow shoes, not those,” he offered with a dismissive wave of his hand in the direction of her feet.       He was rewarded with a huff. She crossed her arms over her chest, boosting what little of her cleavage he could see from the small opening at the top of the zipper in her jacket. Yum.       “You know what? You said I hadn’t bothered you, but you’re not being very nice and over a pair of... Look, just because you don’t like them—”        “I don’t like them because you’re an accident waiting to happen. You wouldn’t have slipped on the ice if you’d had proper shoes on.”       Embarrassment flooded her neck with heightened color. For a second, he felt bad at revealing that he’d seen her come close to falling on her face in his front yard, but the feeling didn’t last long. She could have been seriously hurt had she fallen.       She set the box of chocolates on the table beside the door and depressed the latch behind her. “Have a nice afternoon, Mr. Hall. Keep the truffles. Give them to your neighbor, your girlfriend, or throw them out.”       She opened the door. He put his hand on it over her head and closed it back again. “Stop. Please. I’m sorry for insulting your choice of footwear.” She just looked at him over her shoulder, one brow lifted in a quizzical expression. “Come over to the fire. Take your…whatever they are off and warm yourself up before you go back out there.”       When he made to put his arm around her waist, she shrugged him off and moved out of reach, walking over to the couch. She wasn’t lithe and skinny, his candy delivery girl. The ski bunny outfit couldn’t hide the natural curves of her hips and ass.       She was all woman under that bundle of fabric.       She unlaced her shoes, and he heard her sigh with pleasure when she got them off. She stuck her feet out in front of her toward the fire and wiggled her pink-socked toes. There was nothing flirty or coquettish in her movements. He found that interesting. She wasn’t trying to come on to him; she wasn’t trying to entice him.       What a fun challenge she would be.       “I offered coffee or hot chocolate to you before. Would you like me to make some?”       “No, thanks. I’m fine.”       He joined her on the couch after picking up the box of chocolates and settled into the corner behind her. “Want one?” he asked, holding out the unopened box to her.       She shifted on the couch. “No, thanks.”       Graham shrugged to himself and untied the ribbon, lifting the lid. “Uh, honey? The—”       “My name is Jane.”       He grinned behind her. “All right. Well, Jane, there are no truffles in the box, there’s only r—”       “What!” She turned around and took the box from him, looking inside it herself, finding only small pebbles glued to the bottom of the decorative paper cups. “I’m gonna kill him. I am going to wrap his tie around his gay little neck and strangle his gay ass,” she muttered.

Today I have paranormal romance author Adrianne Brennan guest blogging and I've also had the pleasure of interviewing on here for a written interview this past Tuesday. I will be having the pleasure of chatting live with Adrianne on my TAMFA—Phoebe Jordan podcast on Friday, January 29th at 6PM to 7:30PM EST (5PM to 6PM CST / 3PM to 4:30PM PST) if you all want to stop by and listen in. Also I will be reviewing her currently released novel, Blood of the Dark Moon, the first book of her Dark Moon series so keep a look out for the review. Now onto Adrianne's guest blog:
* * * * * *
Blood of the Dark Moon began as a series of recurring dreams about a decade or so ago. Initially I wrote shorts based on them, including a lengthy sex scene involving two vampires having an argument then engaging in a hot, intense lovemaking session. That short was expanded to cover two chapters of what would become Blood of the Dark Moon. As a plot bunny, this one was the most intense. I actually scaled it down significantly for the book. I didn’t want to branch off into realms that would be considered to be more BDSM and less erotic romance. Additionally I wanted the main character to handle her transformation with difficulty at first, but find strength and personal growth at the end. It’s not so much a coming of age story as much as it is a finding yourself story. Too many people search for themselves in their partner and wonder why later they wind up being lost and unhappy. If Amanda, the main character of Blood of the Dark Moon wants a chance with her lover and sire, she’ll need to be happy with herself first. The entire book took me a year to write. I visited the West Village in NYC to get a feel for the backdrop, based the blues club on a local one I attended while I was there, and even included a scene in the book which was based on an incident that happened to me in a bar/restaurant in real life while I was there celebrating the completion of my manuscript. It’s been a labor of love, and I’ve been thrilled to see it released in eBook, ecstatic to find it now on Amazon.com in paperback, and happy to be working on future developments in the series. I hope to keep Amanda and the characters evolving as the plot grows and when I end the series at a comfortable point, it’s my desire to do so with the feeling that I’ve explored the people in depth and I’m leaving them all on good terms. Blood of the Dark Moon by Adrianne Brennan
Amanda, graduate student and devoted follower of the Greek god Apollo, is intrigued when she meets Jesse, a handsome young scholar who shares her love of both the classics and the occult. He quickly sparks her interest—and ignites a dark flame of passion between them. Together, they embark on a shadowy path that leads Amanda straight into Jesse’s scintillating underworld of vampires, magick, and secret societies. Little does Amanda know she is about to fulfill a legacy that began over thirty years ago and ended in tragedy. Can she learn the truth about her identity in time to help those whom she has grown to care about and find happiness in her new life with Jesse? Blood of the Dark Moon combines the classic eroticism of vampires with a touch of modern sensual romance and occult intrigue.

Excerpt:       Sometime after they had left the diner, Amanda could only guess that they were venturing further into Queens and would soon, perhaps, be in Long Island. She kept scrutinizing the roads and the signs, looking for places she recognized. Unfortunately, she hadn’t traveled very much out of Manhattan during her stay at NYU and so nothing looked familiar to her. She settled for chatting with Jesse and enjoying the view from her window.       It was almost midnight when Jesse finally pulled off a major road and stopped at a nearby rest stop. He parked the car off to the side and gestured towards the sky.        “You can’t see this in Manhattan. Damn, it’s beautiful.”       She stared up at the sky and saw all of the individual stars that had been obscured by the pollution from the city. Amanda leaned back against the car, finding herself awed by the majesty of the sky combined with the gentle, clean breezes that swept through her hair. Away from the highway and the noises of the city to distract her, she experienced the outdoors at its fullest. She was spinning away in the galaxy towards the stars.       With a flourish, Jesse opened up the back door of the car.        “Here, sit down with me.” He sat on the seat and pulled her onto his lap. Wrapping his arms around her, they gazed up together at the night sky.        “Gods, it’s beautiful,” she breathed.       As he brushed her hair away from her face he merely commented, “And so are you.”       She turned to smile at him before resting her head onto his chest. They stayed that way for a few moments until Amanda began to feel that something was odd.       She racked her brain to figure it out, still bedazzled by the night sky and the feeling of being in his arms, but couldn’t think of it.       Then at last she realized what it was: her ear was up against his chest, but she couldn’t feel nor hear a heartbeat.       Puzzled, Amanda wondered if it was just because his leather jacket muffled the sound, but that couldn’t have been it. At their close proximity, she should still be able to hear or feel something.       Figuring that the late hour and the fatigue were doing strange things to her mind, she dismissed it as her imagination. But in the silence between them, away from the city and the noise, the only breathing she heard was her own.       I must be losing it. But as she stared up into the sky, too many things fell into her mind, persistent in their logic. Amanda had never seen Jesse during the daylight, had never seen him more than perhaps taste food, didn’t know what he did for a living other than “freelance computer work”, and now she couldn’t hear a heartbeat nor him breathing.        “Jesse?” she queried, her hesitancy showing in her voice.       Feeling him freeze behind her, she wondered if he knew what was on her mind, and thought to phrase her next words with caution.        “You’re not a normal guy, are you? I mean,” she continued, trying not to rush through her words, let alone sound nervous, “not that I’m…all that normal myself, and all, but….” Her voice trailed off. Amanda did not know what to say, or how to say it.       Many moments passed without a response. With great deliberateness he ran his hands through her hair, and she delighted in the feel of his fingertips as they coursed through the strands, brushing against her neck as soft as silk.       In that moment she remembered their first dinner outing, when Jesse showed her the Latin magickal text which referred to strange allegories, symbols and various arcana. She recalled that the text kept referencing “blood” in some mystical context.        “Jesse?” Her voice was quieter, and she was no longer so certain that she was crazy.       YOUR TIME HAS COME.

It has been a very long while since I had an author interviewed or guest blog on my review blog but I'm happy to say that I have Dena Celeste be my guest this week. This past Tuesday I interviewed Dena Celeste about her writing experience and books. Today Dena will be guest blogging about how she came to write her debut novel, Her Master's Gift, and her story, Love in the Lights, which is in the Winter Kisses anthology. Now onto Dena's guest blog:
* * * * * *
Hi there Phoebe! Thank you so much for having me here. I’m thrilled to be able to talk more about the writing process I went through for Her Master’s Gift and Love in the Lights! I’ll go in order of publication, if you don’t mind. Her Master’s Gift was a story I began for a submission call. It soon became something much closer to my heart. I didn’t know, originally, what the story was going to be about. I had several false starts, which I do indeed have saved! Still, the first part of chapter one came pouring out of me one night and I was caught by the characters. I do work out my own issues through my writing, so there are several things people I know and love recognize in it. Still, the characters took me by surprise a few times! Jeanie had some surprising details that I wasn’t aware of until they were written on the page. And I know that Nancy has a story waiting to be told! She was very loud and vivacious in my head. It took me about three months total to write HMG, and I have to admit to puzzling over what to call it. Thankfully, I have friends (like Selena Blake) who are more than willing to toss out words and options until we could cobble something together that fit it. While it didn’t get picked for the sub-call it was originally written for, I’m more than certain that HMG belongs where it’s at! And did you see the cover? I’m so in love with it still that I look at it often. Love in the Lights is one of the stories among the awesome tales of the Winter Kisses anthology! I have never written a sweet romance before this one, and I will admit to being a little nervous. I wasn’t sure if I could pull off a romance without the sex because, honestly, I enjoy writing sex! It’s fun to write, and it’s even more fun to “research”! I think that sex and romance go hand-in-hand, but…I wanted to write a story about Chanukah. The call required that it be sweet or slightly sensual, but that was the limit. In BDSM, a limit is usually something to be pushed and explored. With this particular limit, I got to stretch my writing muscles and see what I could do when held back a bit. It’s like bondage, funny enough! I learned how to explore romantic feelings, and express a divine sexiness, within a confined set of rules. At first, all I knew was that it had to be sweet, and that I wanted to write about Chanukah. So I stared at my screen for awhile, not quite sure where to go from there. One thing I recommend for all writers, aspiring authors or not, is to have a circle of other writers! It helps to have friends to toss out encouragement and advice. My friend Valerie Mann suggested I make each chapter represent one night. Thankfully, that idea spurred me to write an outline. Now, for me, outlines aren’t a natural first step. I usually try to pants it first, and see what comes. If I get stuck, I start writing an outline, since that’s a bit easier. Kind of. Now my outlines can be sparse or detailed, and comprise the whole story or only the part that has me stuck. I’ve had lines like, “And then something happens with her friend.” in the outline, and have to come up with details on the fly. That’s my favorite kind! It allows me to roll with my muse, but also gives me something to go back to if I’m suddenly abandoned mid-sentence. The outline went very well, and the ideas flowed from there. I found myself writing about a different kind of sensuality, something intense, yet also modest, slow and special. Every step that Abi and Josh took together was incredible to write about. I also liked going from one day to the next. It actually kept me from getting stuck in the details. If you can’t tell, I can ramble. A little bit. I wrote Love in the Lights in a week. Yes, a week. I cut it a wee bit close. I also spent a week trying to shine it up before I submitted it. I waited on pins and needles for a few very short days to hear back about it, and I was thrilled that it was accepted! I didn’t know what the anthology would be called, or what the cover would look like (between Jill Noble and Fiona Jayde I knew the cover would rock), but I was (and still am) thrilled to have a story in such good company!

Excerpt: The metal was cool, shockingly so, as it came into contact with the sensitive skin of her neck. His fingers barely touched her, and yet even that small caress made her shiver. Goosebumps rose in a wave over her entire body and she felt even more bare than she already was, if that was possible. The lock closed with a quiet ‘snick’ and the joy that bubbled up from the depths of her soul shone from her. She knew she was glowing, could feel it emanating from her skin. “You’ve come to me, and you’ve bared your body, and your mind, and your soul. We have explored many things, both pleasurable and painful, and I am honored to collar you today. We will travel this part of the journey together, confident in our trust, secure in our love. I claim you as mine.” Tears welled up in Katie’s eyes and flowed over her cheeks at his words. In her position kneeling at his feet, she bent over and reverently laid her lips on first one boot, and then the other. She lifted her face to look up at him, and as she spoke, his hands came up to cradle her damp cheeks. “You found me, and didn’t just mold me into what I am now. You urged me to find out who I was for myself, and no one else. You accepted me, even when I was afraid. You were even willing to let me go, if that was what I needed. You encouraged me, and you guided me, and now I accept your claim. You will be my master, and I will be your slave, happily. I choose you, Sam.” Her words wavered as his hands lightly glided over her cheeks, down her neck, over her shoulders and all the way down to her hands to help her stand in front of him. Katie fell into his light green gaze and his head dipped down. His lips touched hers, gently at first, and she responded even to that tender touch. The kiss went on, and as it did, his tongue slid into her mouth, silkily dueling with hers until she pressed her body to his, small whimpers released from her throat. Katie came back to herself when she heard the others in the room softly clapping for them. She could feel herself blush from her cheeks above to the cheeks a little further south, and knew that her embarrassment could be seen by all. When her master turned away for a moment, she let her fingers come up to stroke her newest adornment. Her hands were toying with the lock at the back of her neck when her wrists were firmly gripped. “It’s time to play now, my beautiful slave.” Sam chuckled in a dark, sensual way that sent desire ripping through her, and Katie’s wrists were bound behind her neck.

Abigail Bloch has been away at school for the last few years. Returning to her mother’s home renews her interest and need for the Jewish traditions. Unfortunately, the man who had been her best friend growing up, Joshua Cohen, gives her a chilly reception. Over the course of Chanukah, a time filled with food and family and friendship, the growing number of flames must melt away hostility and illuminate the love that can grow between them.

Excerpt: “Baby! You’re home!” Abigail Bloch’s mother grabbed her in a warm, tight hug. Abi dropped her gym bag onto the porch swing and returned the embrace. The familiar scent of home, cinnamon-sugar and matzo ball soup surrounded her. “Hey, Mama. Yeah, I’m home. I’d like to breathe sometime soon though.” Tugged inside by her firecracker of a mother, Abi’s ears rang at the blast of noise coming from the kitchen. “Sorry I’m late, but the bus broke down. I was stuck in Atlanta for a couple hours before they switched us to a different one.” “That’s okay. Everyone’s here already and I made all your favorites. It’s not every mother who can say her daughter made the President’s List!” Rosie Bloch raved. Abi followed her mother through the house. She tossed her bag into the open entrance of her room. “It’s no big deal, Mama. Really. Are the latkes ready yet?” Warm, flaky, perfectly fried. No one made potato pancakes like her mama. “Of course! And I made extra since we’re hosting the dinners this year.” Abi groaned. Hosting meant all their close friends and any family in the area would be there. “Great. That’s just...lovely, Mama.” For her mother’s sake, Abi’d find a way to endure the crowd; Rosie Bloch loved nothing more than showing off her skills in the kitchen. “Oh, did I tell you? Joshua took off work for the holiday, too! He’s such a good boy. Have you kept in touch with him like I asked you to?” Abi winced. “Sorry, Mama, there just really wasn’t time. You know how crazy school has been for me. Sleeping and studying were more of a priority.” “Well, I guess I understand that. No matter. He’s in the kitchen. Go set the extra tables up, would you?” With that said, her mother rushed off to deal with some vaguely familiar-looking people across the room. Abi figured they were neighbors she hadn’t seen in a long time. In the kitchen, Abi automatically stepped over toys she assumed her sister’s kids had left strewn over the floor. The intense scents of potato pancakes, soup and kugel teased her senses and she gave an appreciative sigh. She couldn’t wait to eat; it had been hours since her last meal. “Oomph!” Abi caught herself against the wall as a large male body backed out of the kitchen and turned straight into her. “You got that okay?” On reflex, she reached out and grabbed the arms balancing the platter. “Yeah, I’m f—. Uh, Abi. How are you?” At the sound of the familiar voice, she looked up. “Joshua. Wow, you’ve grown...taller.” She knew she was being a bit cheeky, but couldn’t help it. “Yeah. That happens when you grow up. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go put this down.” Frowning at the coldness in his response, Abi looked after him in confusion as he walked away. Wonder what his problem is. The clamor of her Nana, sister and sisters-in-law in the kitchen drew her out of her thoughts and back into the action. “Guys, where’s the other tablecloth? Mama wants me to set up another table for the food. Holy cow, what’s she making?” There were pots everywhere, and casserole dishes covered in foil lined the island in the middle. “Abi!” “Angel face!” “Hey there!” The chorus of greetings spun her head but Abi hugged everyone in turn. “Guess it’s time to put me to work, huh?”
* * * * * *
“Aunt Abi! It’s time to light the candles! Come on!” Abi quickly put her plate down on the nearest flat surface as her niece dragged her to the table in front of the window. She stood there as her mother led the kids in taking out the two candles needed and explained about the shammas candle, which was always used to light all the other candles, and where to place the first Chanukah candle. As she said the familiar prayers, the skin on the back of her neck prickled. She turned to the side to find Joshua Cohen staring at her. She caught his gaze and smiled at him, but once again he stabbed her with an icy glare. A pang of hurt and confusion washed through her. What had she done to prompt such a cold response? She hadn’t been the best at keeping in touch, but then, neither had he. She understood how busy he was as a lawyer, even if it was at a small firm and she didn’t hold his lack of communication against him. So why was he so mad at her? She gazed at the lit candles as the crowd around her dissipated. The lights were so beautiful, and the antique silver menorah cast a glow all around the table. The menorah was only for pleasure, to be looked at and not used for actual lighting, and Abi let the simple beauty of the flames entrance her. Rubbing her hands over the knee-length skirt she wore, Abi glanced around the room. It was so good to be home again. “How’ve you been, sweetie?” Her sister Anne slung an arm around her shoulders. “Oh, I could be worse. Any idea why Joshua is acting like I shot his dog?” “I’m not sure. Maybe because you went off to college instead of staying here and attending a local university? You were his best friend, and then you were gone. I don’t know. You could always ask him. Goodness knows you’ll be seeing him often enough since Mama’s hosting.” Abi leaned into her sister. “Yeah, maybe I should ask him, but heck, this isn’t easy for me, either. It’s hard coming back after so much time away. I mean, three years! I think I’m going to wait until he comes to me. If I can stand it that long.” Abi was determined that Joshua would realize she could still be a part of her hometown community, and hadn’t given her place away just because she’d gone off to experience school and the world. “Well, let’s nosh some more. When all else fails, there’s food!” Abi laughed and allowed Anne to drag her back to the table filled with brisket, roasted chicken and all kinds of goodies.

This is a bit late but I haven't posted an author guest in such a long time I was not use to posting early. I have newly published romance author Penny Watson guest blogging here about her debut novel, Sweet Inspiration, on my blog today after having contacted me about scheduling an author interviewed, guest blogging and having her debut novel reviewed by me a couple of months ago. Her debut romance novel, Sweet Inspiration, was a wonderful read and you can read my review of it that I posted a while back. Also don't forget to check out my recent interview with Penny that I posted this past Tuesday so you can learn more about her and her writing. Now onto the very interesting and informative guest blog by Penny:

It's all about the contrasts. Nothing infuses a book or movie with more energy and interest than mixing it up. My favorite combination: horror and humor (check out the Shaun of the Dead!). I also love stuffy Regency historicals peppered with naughty, lusty sex (try reading Elizabeth Hoyt's The Raven Prince). Paranormality meets quirky pop culture (Kresley Coles' Immortals After Dark Series is wonderful). I love stories that are "outside of the box"...something a little unexpected and fun. So, it was really no surprise that the idea for my debut novel took a traditional Christmas legend (Santa Claus and the North Pole) and gave it a new twist. A spicy, saucy romantic twist. Santa is a fitness buff. Mrs. Klaus is a hippy. The North Pole is run by a bunch of hard-cussing, hard-drinking elves. The Klaus Brothers Series is about the five single, sexy sons of Santa Claus, who help their father run the North Pole. Their jobs range from toy designer to director of elfin resources. Nicholas, the eldest son and hero of my novel Sweet Inspiration, is a master pastry chef and next in line for his father's job. I've read a lot of paranormal romances, but none had the North Pole as a paranormal setting, and I thought it offered great opportunities for humor and spice.I got to incorporate some of my favorite things in this book...the whole brotherhood theme, with plenty of fun dialogue and camaraderie, lots of food descriptions since both Nicholas and Lucy are pastry chefs (I love to cook!), and a sweet and spicy romance. I had a lot of fun writing this story by "the seat of my pants"—I had no idea what was going to happen until I wrote it. So every new chapter was an adventure for me. I fell in love with my characters as the story progressed, and became enchanted with the magical setting as it developed and grew. The magic seemed to take on a life of its own, and by the time I was done with Sweet Inspiration, I couldn't wait to write about the rest of the brothers.

Today I have romance author Madonna Lacy who is also known as M.L. Lacy and I met her through my friendship with Terry Kate, creator of Romance in the Backseat, when we had our live chat together. Well Madonna got in touch with me one day about sending me a copy of her debut novel, Chrysalis: The Awakening, which Madonna is going to send me a signed copy for me to read and review later on my review blog so keep a look out for that review. Also don't forget to check out my interview with Madonna that I posted this past Tuesday. Now onto my very fun and informative review with Madonna:

The story developed just through my imagination. I have always liked the paranormal realm, but in all the stories I have told my vampires and witches and werewolves were not the typical mystical’s. So, I just let my imagination run with this story line. I knew from the beginning I didn’t want YA (young adult). I wanted something older for my age group. I defiantly wanted them to blend with the mortals. They could be your neighbor, your doctor, your plumber etc. I took the concepts of a young woman, made her young life unpleasant, brought in the paranormal protects and just let the story unfold. As I wrote it, I realized it was pretty standard fare romance/fantasy/fiction/mystery and I wanted it to be different. So, I took the concept of a ‘share love’ type setting. Mythical beings live a very long life because they aren’t mortals, so I played with the idea—how difficult would it be to live with your spouse, for all of eternity, and never stray. That’s how I developed their world. When you enter a ‘clan or family or coven’ it’s for life. They develop bonds and you can’t stray outside of the ‘clan or family or coven’. Bree, the main character, struggles with this concept. She had always wanted that one ‘special person’ for all of her mortal eternity. It’s detailed. The first book laid all the ground work—her birth, her prophesy as a Chosen One, her destiny if and when she crosses into the magical realm, and fills the reader in on all that had happened to her while she was growing up. She goes to the reunion with her grandmother and then Bree starts to tell you her story as it unfolds. Blurb: Chrysalis: The Awakening by M.L. LacyAll families have secrets. But at 32 years old, Bree Campbell is discovering that her entire life has been a secret. Like most people, it never occurred to her to question her mortality; that is until she learns that she is a mortal born into a family of Magicals and begins to question everything and everyone in her life. As the doors to Bree’s new world fly open and she finally hears the prophecy told at her birth she must face the revelation that she is a Chosen One; the last and greatest of a long line of Chosen Ones. And if this were not overwhelming enough, she has been charged with saving the earth by repairing the cosmic tear that binds the mortal world she has always known and the Magical world she is just now discovering. But the real question lies in whether Bree will survive the long transformation into the powerful Druid Sorceress that is her destiny or die in the process as many before her have gone. Bree’s journey will not be an easy one. She must face the realities of her new life and her new family; a clan of vampires who have been charged with protecting her for all of her mortal life. They have chosen her as a leader in their clan, a position that has really complicated things for her. For no sooner than Bree is finally reunited with her long lost love, Steven, Bree must learn how to navigate the jealousies and emotions within her new family. While Bree tries to free herself from her past, including her cruel and lethal husband, she must determine who she can truly trust. And while her clan loves her immensely, they will continually try to stand in her way; all in the name of protecting her from those set upon her death. Bree’s arch nemesis is Esmeralda, a powerful sorceress in her own right who will stop at nothing until this Chosen One is dead. If Esmeralda can claim Bree’s blood, heart and soul and restore her Demon to his body, she will be so strong that none will be able to oppose her and she will be free to rid the world of all mortals and rule as she chooses. But with the help of the Guardians and her dreams, Bree begins to awaken the powers hidden within her and begins to embrace the responsibility she has been born to. And even while these changes make her body weak, Bree begins to find an inner strength she never knew she had within herself. Will it be enough to save the world? Today I have romance author Nancy O'Berry who I contacted about being on my blog after meeting her on the Romance in the Backseat chat room a couple of Wednesday's ago. She was nice enough to agree to be interviewed by me on Tuesday as well as guest blog about her wonderful Sweetbrier Academy series today. I was also happy to find out that Nancy wanted me to read and review the 3 books in her Sweetbrier Academy series. I've already read and reviewed the first book, Having Faith and the second book in the series, Holding on to Hope. I'm now currently reading the third book, Giving in to Charity, and should have that review up soon as well. Well now onto my very fun and informative guest blog about Nancy's Sweetbrier Academy series:

Welcome to Sweetbrier Academy. What is Sweetbrier Academy? Well, most will tell you an academy is a school. Hum, true enough but oh, what an unusual school this is. Sweetbrier sits on the edge of the great western plains in the mythical town of Panther's Landing. It does rival some of the best finishing schools back east. The Academy's Madame teaches the girls French, embroidery, history, discussions of great literature and speeches. They dabble in the arts of harp or spinets and understand fine works of art. However, the best things the Academy teaches it's students are found behind closed doors. Madame Opal Benedict is the owner of the Academy a recent resident of New Orleans during the great unpleasantness. When the Beast Butler issues his order number 28 on May 15th, Opal knows it's time to go. Her long time paramour, Howard Stetson, who works for the railroads, finds her a space near the spur line and she moves, lock, stock, and twelve luscious ladies to the Wyoming Territory. This was the idea behind the books. The story began oddly enough with a dream after watching several hours of a Ken Burn's documentary. I thought, hum, WHAT IF...I'm a great what ifer. I grew up watching Gunsmoke. We all knew Miss Kitty ran a saloon and there was an UPSTAIRS, I mean come on the relationship between those two was great. So why not explore the idea of 12 women in a brothel. I mean bad girls need love too. Originally, I wanted three books four girls in each all in short story form. Which is why Having Faith is so short. The other two books grew. Hope grew to nearly 44k and Charity was a healthy 65k. You might notice that my ladies are Faith, Hope, and Charity. When my ladies enter the academy their names change to qualities. All of my girls are what today would have been called high-end call girls. Nancy O'Berry's Sweetbrier Academy SeriesFaith—is given the opportunity to gain a paramour or sponsor for a year or for life by being the prize in a high stakes card game that pits a kindly gentleman, a former Northern Union Officer, and a former Southern soldier against one another. Hope—falls in love with the town's doctor as influenza strikes. When the good people of Panther's Landing find out about the doctors love affair, will they refuse to allow the good Doctor to treat their love ones or make him leave town in disgrace. Charity—an interracial woman of extreme beauty. Her paramour refuses to take her to Washington because of her "tainted blood". Opal Benedict arranges Charity to become the personal secretary of one of Howard Stetson's friends Joshua Tobias Meriwether, a silver baron. Charity finds herself embroiled in a scheme to steal Merewether's wealth. Can she save him? Each of my ladies will also find love beyond the house. So will there be other stories? Probably. I'm working on researching another right now, I'm thinking, the heroine's name will be Tempest. And yes, like her name, she brings her own set of problems to Sweetbrier in order for Miss Benedict and her wisdom to help sort out. You know, what if is so much fun.
Order number 28, issued May 15th by General Butler commandant of New Orleans: "As the officers and soldiers of the United States have been subjected to repeated insults from the women (calling themselves ladies) of New Orleans, in return for the most scrupulous noninterference and courtesy on our part, it is ordered that hereafter when any female shall, by word, gesture, or movement, insult or show contempt for any officer or soldier of the United States, she shall be regarded and held liable to be treated as a woman of the town plying her avocation.":

Blurb for Having Faith (Book 1): Having Faith by Nancy O'BerryWhen a high stakes poker game offers the chance to win Faith's hand as their paramour, three players meet in the backroom. Drawn to Thaddeus Oakley, the construction foreman of the rail line, she must await the draw of the cards. Will Lady Luck smile upon Major Abrams, the spit and polish army officer who believes women are no more than a mark on the bedpost, Gregory Wilson the older executive from the railroad, or Thaddeus Oakley, the man of her dreams. Who will gain the ultimate prize of Having Faith?
******
Blurb for Holding on to Hope (Book 2): Holding on to Hope by Nancy O'BerryWhen Miss Opal Benedict, Madame of the Academy, is called out of town, Hope finds Panther's Landing's doctor, the dashing Jonathan Norris paying court. When his attentions become obvious, they find themselves caught in a storm of their own creation. Their lust for one another becomes the object of unwanted attention in a most unflattering way. When influenza strikes, Dr. Jonathan Norris must choose between his career or the woman who has captured his soul.
******
Blurb for Giving in to Charity (Book 3): Giving in to Charity by Nancy O'BerryWhen Opal Benedict offers Charity Wilson a chance to further her horizons, she travels to Virginia City and accepts the job of personal secretary for the wealthy J.T. Meriwether unaware of the tension between the business man and his partner. Here she plans to sort out her personal life and better herself. Charity becomes entangled in a souring love affair that may exact the highest price of all when she falls for the soft spoken Silver Baron. Can Tobias Meriwether overcome his dark past and fulfill their destiny?

Today I have romance author Tracy Cooper-Posey on my blog after having her contact me about scheduling an author interview, author guest blog and a book review. I have reviewed Tracy's upcoming release, Ningaloo Nights, which I got an advanced copy to read and you can get your own copy this Friday, October 9th. Don't forget that Tracy has also been on my blog this past Tuesday with an author interview. Now onto my Tracy guest blog about her upcoming release Ningaloo Nights:
******
When I was a teenager, I spent some time touring and camping around the northwest of Western Australia with my parents. We used to throw folding beds and gear into the back of the family station wagon, petrol and consumables into the trailer hitched on the back, and take off for two weeks at a time. At night, we’d find a quiet place off the beaten track and camp for the night. Some of the places where we camped were so out of the way, that when we had settled down for the night, and the fire was out, the silence was so total I could hear for miles and miles. And I would lay looking up into the night sky, which was never fully black even out there, and feel a profound peace. So when Ellora’s Cave asked me to write a story that would make readers want to go to Australia, I flashed back on those moments, and knew I wanted to put them into the story. It was just a matter of finding a story to build around them. The story therefore had to be set in and around Ningaloo, and that made it at least picturesque—Ningaloo Reef itself is spectacular. But the country around Ningaloo isn’t the sort of country you can just drive around willy-nilly. My parents had a healthy respect for the place, and knew how to get around without killing themselves accidentally, and I must have absorbed some of the rules of country travelling even though I was a bratty teenager, because I found that the precautions and expediencies that Mason Hayward takes to get Sherry to Derremawan in Ningaloo Nights were some of the same things my parents used to do when we were travelling around the Exmouth Gulf...I remembered them, even though that was more than twenty years ago. The story wrote itself rather quickly once I had the concept in place. The plot fell together in a day or two, and I wrote steadily over about three weeks. I was on a short deadline, so I didn’t take any breaks, and luckily, didn’t hit any snags in the plot or characters. The ending suggested itself to me about half-way through the story. I didn’t plot that it from the start. But when I thought of it, I went back and wrote in the necessary set up at the start of the story so that the ending would work. I’ve had a couple of beta readers who have told me that the ending is one of the best things about the story...which goes to prove that plotting ahead of writing doesn’t ruin a story at all. You can still be surprised by what the story will bring out as you write it. Ningaloo Nights is part of the Going Down Under series, and I believe it is the first or one of the first of the series to be released at Ellora’s Cave. Blurb: Ningaloo Nights by Tracy Cooper-Posey New York cop Sherry Abandonato cashes in her savings and dashes to Ningaloo in remote northwest Western Australia to find her sister who disappeared ten days ago. The only one with the skill to guide her to Derremawan is Mason Hayward, once an official guide with a reputation for getting people out of trouble, but now the town’s bad man. In a searing afternoon of unexpected passion, Mason strikes a bargain. He’ll get her to Derremawan, if she agrees to go there with him unconditionally, on his terms and his conditions. Sherry is astonished to find herself agreeing to the insane bargain, and worse, responding positively to the idea of three days of Mason Hayward dictating terms out under the Australian sun.

In only three days Sherry had already got used to laid-back Australians but stark-naked ones were definitely a novelty. Especially this Aussie. She hadn’t been expecting anything quite so…beautiful—not emerging from such a place as this. The shed she had stepped around looked like it had been slapped together with nails and sheets of rusted corrugated iron. When she peeked inside it on her way around to the rear, it was clear that the man she was seeking did indeed live in it, for there was a cot and an old mattress and a folding card table and a few basic living amenities. Very basic. She’d felt a long way from New York at that moment, despite some of the tenements she patrolled being just as run-down and unloved. She’d heard sounds beyond the shed and rather than step inside, she’d moved around it, for the smell coming from inside the quarters had been less than savory. No wonder the sergeant at the tiny Ningaloo police station had been so reluctant to give her the man’s name. Mason Hayward. Sherry stared at the naked man now, the heat of a torrid February morning forgotten as she watched him reach up to the bucket hanging over his head and pull on the rope attached to the lip at the bottom and running up through the same hook that held the bucket. Water poured over his black hair, dousing him from head to foot, every inch well-tanned. He stood easily six foot two inches and as he controlled the flow of water from the bucket, Sherry assessed his physical fitness, running her gaze over the tight buttocks, the satin-sheened skin spreading over agreeable, wide back muscles as they worked under very little disguising fat. Long legs. The well-developed muscles clenched as he turned. His chest was as pleasing as his back, with hard Pecs and heavy shoulders. The biceps were flexed, iron-hard. As a New York cop, Sherry had long ago lost all shyness around the locker room and her assessing gaze flowed smoothly to his cock and testicles. He was all male, well endowed in a way she had rarely seen. “Should I be charging admission?” His voice was deep, with a gravelly timbre and the tone was dry and completely devoid of amusement. She jumped guiltily and forced her gaze to his face. He had eyes the same light blue as the Australian summer sky—transparent and depthless. “I’m sorry—” she began, then halted. There was no way to explain what she had been doing. What had she been doing? She was aware of her heart thudding in a way that she’d almost forgotten. How long had it been since she had felt this sort of racing charge? Abruptly, she became aware of the heat of the day again. It was beating at her temples, making her sweat. The heat was a live thing, curling around her, throbbing in time with her heartbeat. He reached for a ratty brown towel hanging over a piece of wire hooked into the gutter next to his head. It was a casual movement. He wasn’t trying to cover himself up. Her presence here hadn’t caused him any concern at all. He wrapped the towel around his hips and tucked the corner in to secure it. “If you’re looking for Ningaloo, you need to turn around and head south about five kilometers. You’ve passed it already.” The heat didn’t seem to be bothering him at all but he hadn’t just flown out from the depths of a New York winter, either. “I’m looking for you,” she told him. His brow lifted and he smiled, showing white, even teeth. “My lucky day.” “You’re Mason Hayward, aren’t you?” Abruptly the smile was gone. He looked up at the sky, shut his eyes briefly, as if reaching for calm. “Bugger it,” he said softly. His gaze, sharp and assessing, fell on her face once more. “Who sent you?” he demanded. His on-point sharpness surprised her. “H-he made me swear not to tell anyone.” Anger flicked at his features. “What do you want, then?” Her gut clenched in response. She had faced down killers with more calm than this. Mason Hayward was radiating fury and danger but of a kind she had no experience with and her Glock was back home in New York. “I need you to take me to Derremawan,” she said quickly, trying to appease him with the answer he wanted. “None of the registered guides will take me there.” His eyes narrowed. “Derremawan,” he repeated softly and gave a short, sharp exhalation. “Why there, for god’s sake?” She stared, astonished. “You don’t know why?” He grimaced. “Indulge me.” “My sister—” She blinked furiously, fighting back the flood of tears that threatened every time she tried to speak of it. “My baby sister, Pepper, disappeared ten days ago. In her last text message to me, she said she and her boyfriend were going up the trail to Derremawan. The local authorities…they haven’t closed the file but they aren’t pursuing the matter, either. They looked along the trail with a helicopter and they found the car but no…no bodies. And that was the extent of their investigation.” “So you flew out here from America to do what?” His eyes were drilling her now. It was uncanny the way they seemed to pierce right through her. She knew she should resent the heavy-handed examination but she needed Hayward, so she answered truthfully. “I’m here to find her.” He shook his head. “Go home, lady. I’m sorry about your sister but the cops are right. After ten days, they’ll have been out of water long enough to be dead, no matter what.” “I know that,” Sherry told him as evenly as she could, although the admission wrenched at her. The tears blurred her sight and she blinked again. “I’m not stupid, Hayward. I know I’m a Yank and all that but I know that much. I said I wanted to find her. Not save her. I just want to find her and find out what happened to her. I think—no, I know that foul play was involved.” His head tilted as he looked at her. “Are you a cop?” “As it happens, yes, I am. Why?” “You talk like one. ‘Foul play?’ Do you know the chances of that happening around here? Where are you from in the States?” “New York,” she said, gritting her teeth against her rising resentment over his casual dismissal and the arrogance behind it. It wasn’t her fault she wasn’t born here. He crossed his arms. “You’ve got over two thousand people per square kilometer there. Here, the official count is less than half a person. If you really think someone was up to no good out there at Derremawan, the chances that a third person came along and did ’em in are laughable. So that just leaves the boyfriend.” His gaze would not leave her alone. He was skewering her. Making her writhe with guilty shame. Because that had been exactly what she had been thinking on the long, long trip from New York to L.A., to Shanghai, to Singapore, to Perth, then back up to Ningaloo. She had never trusted Ryan to do right by Pepper. Not at all. And her fury had sustained her all the way here. “I’m betting your parents are both dead and they died a while ago,” Mason Hayward added softly. “And you’ve been mum and dad to your little sister since then.” She jumped. She couldn’t help it. “Fuck you and the motherfucker who bore you,” she spat, her voice thick with more tears and turned to go. She would find someone else. Anyone but this asshole. “Wait,” he said gently, his hand on her elbow. “Wait a minute.” He didn’t hurt her but he halted her just the same. There was no arguing with the forced behind his hold. She kept her head down to hide her tears. Those, she would not let him see. “How much money have you got?” he said. Money. She had been warned it would come down to money with him but the confirmation filled her with an inexplicable sadness. She mentally converted the wad of US dollars she had stashed away and said warily, “The equivalent of about two thousand Australian.” “That’s not going to be enough.” She looked at him—tears be damned. “No wonder this town hates you. You can add one more to the tally, Hayward. You’ve got the sensitivity of a pack mule.” She wrenched her elbow out of his grip and walked away from him.

Today I have paranormal romance author Eva Gordon who contacted me about scheduling an author interview, author guest blog and book reviews. I've already read and reviewed her first two books in her Wolf Maiden Chronicles series which are called Werewolf Sanctuary and Beast Warrior: Viking Werewolf. But that is not all because I will be chatting live with Eva Gordon on my live podcast show TAMFA—Phoebe Jordan on Thursday, October 8th at 9PM EST (8PM CST or 6PM PST). Also don't forget that I interviewed Eva here on Monday so read my interview with her as well. Now onto Eva's guest blog about her current release in her Wolf Maiden Chronicles series called Beast Warrior: Viking Werewolf:
******
The concept for Beast Warrior: Viking Werewolf, came about when I was finishing up Werewolf Sanctuary, book 1 in the Wolf Maiden Chronicles. My main character Wyatt was doing research on lycan history and he mentioned a wolf maiden once taken by Vikings. The next day I read the travel section and there was an article about the Gascony Coast in South Western France. I found the area to be beautiful and read about Viking raids when it was part of the Frank Kingdom. I decided that my heroine would be a Frank wolf maiden, Emelisse, daughter of a powerful Frank lycan knight. My hero, Sigurd, would be a werewolf from Scandia who became a Viking in order to find the berserker bear men who slaughtered most of his pack. I kept to a strict schedule and finished the rough draft in four months. After editing with both my critique partners and my editor the story was ready in a few more months. My research was just as much fun as the writing of the story. I always loved Norse mythology and werewolf lore so I truly enjoyed creating this story. In the Viking world to be a member of the Wolf Clan, Ulfhednar was the greatest honor. Viking warriors believed that if they died a heroic death they would be turned into magnificent wolves. Vikings also believed wolves chasing and devouring the sun and moon caused eclipses. Two wolves accompanied Odin, ruler of the Norse Gods. He created the wolves Freki (Hungry One) and Geri (Greedy One) as loyal companions. I introduced Fenris as the wolf god of my Norse werewolves. Their enemies became the berserker bearskins, men who shift into bears. Like berserkers of legend who raided with massive weapons, wearing nothing but animal skins my berserkers lead the pillage throughout and were feared even by the Norse Jarls who hired them. In my world my characters not only had to deal with enemy lycan packs and the berserker bear men but also the dreaded disease we all know as rabies. What happens when a werewolf gets rabies? Throughout history there had been stories of wolves that boldly attack village people. The culprit for these attacks must have been rabies, which causes animals to attack in rage. The disease makes swallowing extremely painful so the animals salivate. Rabies is known as hydrophobia, which literally means fear of water. In my story Emelisse is directed to find a cure to hydrophobia from her wolf goddess, Feronia. My story is filled with werewolf lore, disease, magic and the romance between an alpha and wolf maiden. Emelisse and Sigurd must learn to love one another despite their different culture and wolf gods.
Blurb: Werewolf Sanctuary by Eva GordonBeast Warrior: Viking Werewolf is a historical paranormal romance that takes place during the Viking Era of the Dark Ages. A time when only the strong survive. It is the second book in the Wolf Maiden Chronicles, which depicts alpha lycans and their human wolf maiden mates. Sigurd, an alpha Norse wolfskin, son of Gunnolf the Red seeks revenge against shape shifting bearskins, Bork the Mad and his son, Mord the Blood Claw for the death of his parents and his older brother Guda. Orphaned, he has been raised by his older sister Brynhild, who convinces him to take a wolf maiden in order to increase their small pack. Despite the warning by Hungerd the wolf witch, he takes a farmer’s new bride with tragic consequences. Alone he joins a long ship until the day he can avenge his pack’s demise. Emelisse, a Frank wolf maiden, has been raised and educated in the classics, science, literature and languages by female lycans of the Lupercal. Born a runt with a weak heart her father has been overprotective. She refuses to be treated like a delicate vase and rebels by seeking out riding and falconry. Now at age eighteen Emelisse frets that her father wants her to accept Radulf III the Cruel, an alpha lycan of a pack of powerful warriors. She tries to run away with her human lover. Viking werewolf, Sigurd rescues Emelisse, from the claws of the berserker bear men. He claims her as his ulf hexen or wolf maiden, but she wants to leave lycan society and live with humans. To complicate matters she has been called by her goddess Feronia to save the lycans from a dreaded disease. Their union is wrought with great peril in a world where werewolves must battle against their own kind as well as their fierce enemy, the berserker bear men. Will Emelisse accept Sigurd a foreign lycan as her alpha mate? Sigurd vows to protect her from their enemies but how can he save her before she dies from her ailing heart?

Glossary for the Wolf Maiden Chronicles
Pack Hierarchy Lycan: An ancient line of humans that shift into large bear sized massive wolves with distinctive tattoos depicting their specific pack. Also known as wolfen, wolf men, wolfskins and werewolves. Their shape shifting is not painful but rather pleasurable. Lycans are superior to humans in many ways. They have the strength of ten men, and the alpha has the strength of five or more lycans. They can heal over night from severe wounds and are immune to most diseases except for the dreaded rabies and the toxin from wolf bane flower. They are very loyal and gentle with their young and pack members. Alpha Lycan: Dominant lycans that are leaders of their packs and can are not under the influence of the moon. They can shift at any time. The alpha male must control his pack of betas. Male Alpha: The male alpha leads the pack. He is the result of a lycan and human woman mating. He is the most powerful member of the pack and like all alphas can shift at any time. Alpha males can only marry a wolf maiden, a human life mate. Female Alpha: A female lycan not under the influence of the moon. She helps protect the pack and serves as a surrogate parent to all the pack children. Alpha females are barren. The Lupercal or Lycan secret governmental body is run by twelve alpha females. Wolf Maiden: A human woman with the special palm facing 5 toed wolf print birth mark, which turns bright red when she is imprinted by her alpha life mate. A wolf maiden can be born to a pack or randomly among humans, unaware of her role. She is also known as an Ulf hexen in Viking culture. During the Middle Ages she was also called a wolf witch or a woman marked with the sign of the beast. Though she is meant for an alpha mate, she can marry and though it takes longer can get pregnant by a human and have normal males who can then have future wolf maidens. Beta Lycans: Lycans that shift only during the full moon. They must be controlled by the alpha since they can become mindless beasts that roam around and kill. Omega Lycans: Lycans that have been deemed the lowest of the low. In ancient times they were no more than slaves for the higher ranked lycans. The Lupercal no longer allows pack members to be treated like omegas since a near revolt during ancient times. Lupercii: Human men that serve the Lupercal and Lycans. They serve as spies for the secret lycan society and worship the lycan goddess, Feronia. They often take alpha female lycans as consorts. The Lupercii hope that in their next life they will be born as lycans.
******
Lycan Gods and Society Feronia: The goddess of the lycans. She is said to have been a wolf maiden who took a shape shifting giant wolf as a lover. She communes with her oracles, especially with the leader of the Lupercal and wolf maidens. Lusna: Moon goddess that gave them the gift of painless shifting. Lupercal: Governmental and spiritual body of the secret lycan society. It is run by twelve alpha female lycans. The leader of the Lupercal is often a seer and or sorceress. Their word is law and any who disobey will be considered rogue and or be punished by returning to their next life as a prey animal. Lupercalia: Early spring festival when most wolf maidens and beta lycans become fertile. Rituals allow for wild sex escapades. Den brother or sister: Pack that a lycan grew up with, not necessarily related by blood. Valeria Luperca: A wolf maiden that has the healing touch. Can heal any lycan both physically and emotionally. Mentioned in White Wolf of Avalon. Bear men: Also known as bearskins. An ancient line of humans who could shift into bears at anytime. Their shift is painful. Like bears they hibernate during the winter. They can be slow witted, strong and have a short temper. During ancient times lycans killed most off from the continent.
******
Conditions that Harm Lycans Lunar Madness: A condition, though rare, which can occur when an alpha suppresses his shift for too long. It will cause the alpha to shift with the pull of the moon until his system stabilizes. Rabies: A viral disease transferred from the bite of an infected animal. Can cause a lycan to kill many. Werewolf Bite fever: An infection that can kill a human from the bite of a lycan. Wolfsbane: A flower that is toxic to a lycan. It is often used as poison because a lycan cannot smell or taste it.

WEREWOLF SANCTUARY by Eva Gordon $ 15.95 (Book 1)(248 Pages) Werewolf Sanctuary by Eva Gordon
Since ancient times, the Lupercal Council has kept their people’s werewolf identity a well-guarded secret from man. They refer to their kind as lycans. The lycan shifts into a bear-sized wolf, bearing unique markings reminiscent of Maori or Celtic tattoos. The pack shifts during the full moon and are under the control of their alpha male leader. The alpha male and alpha female are not bound by the full moon and can shift at will. Lycans can only breed with their kind. The exception are the alpha males, which can only mate with human women known as wolf maidens. These human women bear the five-toed paw print or mark of the wolf on their left hip. Female alphas are sterile but are the leading lycans governing the Lupercal Council. The Lupercal society is in peril due to an unknown disease infecting their young offspring. The children that survive the pestilence shift too early into wolf cubs, lose their distinct markings, and end up becoming normal wolves unaware of their human consciousness. Normally immune to most known diseases, the Lupercal has few of their own doctors and must seek the help of a human outsider to find the cure. Wyatt Weylin, the alpha male of the Montana pack and leader of a team of mercenary lycans, flies to a World Wolf Conference in San Francisco, where he hopes to convince leading authority on wolf diseases, veterinarian Dr. Madeline Styles to come to his wolf sanctuary and find a cure. The minute he sees her he feels drawn to her striking good looks. The sensory chemistry is instant. He tries to suppress the feeling knowing that he is forbidden to fall for a human. Life gets complicated when Wyatt discovers that the vegetarian animal doctor has the mark of the wolf and is his life mate.

WHITE WOLF OF AVALON: WEREWOLF KNIGHT by Eva Gordon $ 15.95 (Book 3)(Coming November 28, 2009) White Wolf of Avalon: Werewolf Knight by Eva Gordon
White Wolf of Avalon is book 3 in my Wolf Maiden Chronicles and takes place during Arthurian times. There are cameo appearances by well known characters such as King Arthur, Morgan le Fey and Mordred to name a few but the story revolves around the secret society of lycans that reside in ancient Britain. Bledig, an orphan raised by a childless couple near the magical Isle of Avalon dreams of someday becoming a knight of the Round Table. Bledig refuses to become a beast and wants no part in marrying a wolf maiden and begetting lycan children. After Bledig helps King Arthur defeat the Saxons at Badon Hill he is knighted and is advised by his close friend Sir Uwain that he knows of a priest that can cure him of his wolfen curse. Bledig heads toward Avalon to tell his great aunt Silvia of his plan. Once cured, he will serve as a knight, marry a courtly lady and earn a title. Annora a Romano Greco wolf maiden, is more interested in intellectual pursuits than romantic ones. She is a scribe and historian who preferred to marry an older alpha lycan who would better understand her need to focus on her writings. As Annora travels up north to meet with her brother and family, they are attacked by Gorlagon’s she-lycan Trivia and her pack of warrior lycans. In the wilderness Annora and Bledig meet. She is the beautiful woman he has dreamt of nightly while heading to retrieve his brother’s moonstone. He the knight in shining armor she had fantasized about, brave, handsome and chivalrous. Their attraction is instantaneous. She is stunned to learn he is a lycan, the white wolf destined to unite all the lycans of Britain. Her mate. On learning she is a wolf maiden, Bledig hardens his heart. He tells her that after he delivers her to the safety of Avalon he will visit a priest who will cure him of his wolfen curse. She is saddened that he refuses to follow his destiny and that he does not wish to claim her as his. Danger lurks everywhere. Gorlagon and Gargol have not given up on their hunt to find Annora and the Pict wolfen she released from his dank dungeons. But most of all they wish to use her as a breeder. Intrigue and secrecy abound in King Arthur’s court at Camulod. Mordred, who Arthur is unaware, is his son by his own sister Morgause, plots to rule. He has become Gorlagon’s secret Lupercii in the hopes of having a lycan army to defeat his father in battle. Will Bledig reject his true destiny as the prophesized lycan leader of Britain, and most importantly can he deny his feelings for the lovely wolf maiden, Annora, who has already captured his heart and soul? Can Annora survive the lycans who hunt her? Will Bledig finally submit to his lycan nature and forever claim her as his wolf maiden? Will magic save their kind, the fae of Avalon and King Arthur’s Britain?
